Sheffield is known as the city of steel. It is the third most populous district in England and is only 30 minutes drive from the Peak District National Park. To help you get the most out of your pet adventure, lets get into our tips for travelling with pets to Sheffield.
Is Primark dog friendly? | Unfortunately not, however John Lewis is! |
Are dogs allowed in Meadowhall? |
Pets are not allowed in the shopping centre unless they are assistance dogs. |
This article is primarily about travelling with pets to Sheffield but lets start with some facts about Sheffield!
Sheffield, United Kingdom (England).
730,000
Sheffield was one of the industrial powerhouses of England. It is now famous for it's art and culture. Sitting in the middle of the country, two hours from London and 1 hour from Manchester, Sheffield is one of the most affordable cities in the UK. it is full of independent businesses, cafes and vintage and thrift shops especially around Devonshire Green.
Meadowhall is a big indoor shopping centre which you can see from quite a distance away when driving past Sheffield via the motorway (it's not pet friendly and has no pet facilities).
Around 60% of the city is green space and there is the incredible Peak District National Park. With over 250 parks, woodlands and gardens, does it get any better for people and their pets to explore? Welcome to the 'outdoor city'.
It can be as high as 35 degrees Celsius and drop as low as -9 degrees Celsius like the rest of England. It's it the north so it is generally pretty cold.
Sheffield, photos, Instagram, Pets, Go!
15 miles out of the centre - The Peak District can offer you Derwent Edge. Simply beautiful and then you get to go on a walk with your pets.
Botanical Gardens - There are some amazing photo opportunities here and they allow pets on leads.
There are many Instagram opportunities outside the many different funky cafes around Sheffield. Make sure you choose a pet friendly café!
Check out division street for some crazy street art which will be good for some Instagram shots.
You will do walking around the city, possibly hiking in the Peak District and it's likely to be cold unless it is the summer. My recommendations would be:
The Treehouse Board Game Café - 41 Boston Street, Sheffield, UK.. Make sure you book in advance. it has vegan options, is pet friendly and is just cool. A water bowl is provided for your dog.
The Grind Café - Cornwall Works, 3 Green Ln, Sheffield S3 8SJ. Go for coffee and breakfast and take your pets with you. It's relaxed and good for anxious pets who don't like it too noisy.
Bungalows and Bears - What a cracking name and it's pet friendly! 50 Division Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S1 4GF. It's a modern pub in an old, converted fire station! Perfect for dirty burgers and beers. You will get a water bowl for your pets.
Treehouse Cafe
The Peak District is an obvious choice. Plenty of safe and beautiful walks to be done.
Graves Park is in the south west of the city and is a nice walk. It has a café, children's playgrounds, an animal farm, pitch and putt, fishing lake and is a great all rounder for families, pets and kids.
Norfolk Heritage Park - Think of a traditional country estate with structural tree planting. Stroll along with a coffee and the pets and forget about everything else.
How do you get around Sheffield? You would think trams (Supertram) would be the best option. Nope, they are not pet friendly unless you have a guide dog. What a let down. They run seven days a week and until about midnight.
How about buses - It is at the discretion of the driver whether your pets will be allowed on.
Uber - car and by foot are your best bet around Sheffield.
For somewhere luxurious in the heart of the Peak District, try Eden Tree Cottage. You will be looking at about £400 for a week and it is based in Bradwell. Here
For somewhere in the city centre at a cheaper rate which is also pet friendly then try Novotel Sheffield Centre.
Here is a little tip to make the stay more magical. The train station is a very short walk away from the hotel for easy access to the Peak District. You will hop on the Hope Valley line between Manchester and Sheffield (Northern Railway) and you will unlock some of the most amazing views of the Peak District scenery.
We hope you have a brilliant time travelling and exploring in 'The Outdoor City'!
]]>Travelling to London is a great experience even for those of us who live in the UK so if you are coming from abroad then you and your pets are really in for a treat. To help you get the most out of your pet adventure, lets get into our tips for travelling with pets to London.

This article is primarily about travelling with pets to London but lets start with some facts about London!
London, United Kingdom (England).

'What is London not famous for' would be a better question. One of the most iconic cities in Europe, London has quite a rich history of architecture and culture. It can give you the high life but can also provide some bargains in the right places. It's vibrant and has been described as being a melting pot of cultures, nationalities and languages which sums it up quite nicely.
It can be as high as 35 degrees Celsius and drop as low as -9 degrees Celsius like the rest of England. The high rise buildings and sheer volume of traffic and people do tend to keep it a little warmer than other areas of the UK. However, pollution, traffic and the never ending construction probably doesn't justify the extra 2 degrees of warmth.
London, photos, Instagram, Pets, Go!
London Underground - For those who don't travel on it everyday! Well behaved pets are fine.
Sketch (Mayfair) - The bathroom is just bizarre but get a photo! Small pets are welcome.
Neal's Yard - Covent Garden - it's picturesque
Little Venice Paddington - Full of pretty canals and riverboats
Westminster Arch (South Bank - SE1 7GL)
Little Venice London - @_like_heaven_
If it is going to rain, then try and find a yellow Paddington style rain jacket for your pets. It's going to be a busy day or so with so much to see. A dog backpack will go a long way to rest their paws once you surpass your 10,000 steps.
There are plenty in London but the winner for us is the Egerton House Hotel - Knightsbridge. for the Doggy afternoon tea! Perfect for vegans too.
Alternatively, you could try Abuelo if would like something a little cheaper. They have a family dog who loves to roam around too. Abuelo
Always be aware of the pet policy in restaurants!
You can choose from a greenery, a cemetery and a beach all in London. Different huh!
Try the Green Chain Walk
Beckenham Place Park to Crystal Palace - (3.9 miles – 6.3 km) Cator Park and Sydenham. It's full of Green, has parks and even an enclosed area for those of you with younger or nervous pets. There are very few if any shops, so take food and water with you!
A cemetery - Yes you heard right. A historical walk and pet friendly but ensure you are considerate as you stroll through. You will be looking for Nunhead Cemetery in South London.
It is quite a stretch outside of central London!
A beach. Who would have thought there is a dog friendly beach in London. The Dog Beach of Ruislip Lido! There is a separate area you must go to with pets which is just past the Woodland Centre. Postcode: HA4 7TY. The nearest station is Ruislip on the Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines; then catch a H13 bus. Make sure you plan for this before you attempt to go.
Ruislip Lido @vivien_zs
There are tubes, buses, trains, taxis and Ubers. Just make sure you always check first with Uber drivers before you jump in. The underground will be your best bet most of the time and during peak days and hours of the week, have a pet carrier/backpack to keep your pets safe. Many people are busy and don't look around for small pets standing next to them.
For affordability and convenience try the Hoxton hotel. it is a chain which you will find throughout London. They allow one dog per room at no extra charge and you get a bowl, bed, spare collar and lead, a first-aid kit and poop bags. Yes, you read all of that correct. Impressive huh! The Hoxton
Dukes Hotel London - If you want to really push the boat out then try this five-star luxury hotel. It has a pet VIP service meaning your pets will receive a pet menu with gourmet meals plus a dog chew and a 24 hour dog sitting service. Will they sit for your cat? I don't know but maybe give them a call to find out. You will also fill out a pet preference form before you arrive so you know they are serious about your companions! Dukes Hotel

A perfect city break. The 'York Castle Museum' has cobbled streets and narrow alleys of Victorian York. There are live actors in here too. Then there is the York street market which has stalls selling burritos and even dumplings. Near the markets you will find 'The Shambles' which is a popular street giving you the true 'quintessential British' feel whilst you shop and explore. Think J.K Rowling. The problem with York is there's just too much to list.
You will probably see little cockapoos, French Bulldogs and Yorkies. York is very pet friendly and most places will welcome your furry friends. You can feel comfortable with your cat or dog or ferret in York so long as you buy a northern beer!
You could visit anytime of the year but Spring is the best time (March to May). The flowers will be in full bloom but hotel prices could be steep. At this time it will be between 10 to 16 degrees Celsius.

It has to be some tweed for you and your pets to look 'quintessentially British together''. All you need is a little tweed bandana, collar and lead. Pair these with your overnight tweed bag and some shiny shoes and you will definitely look chic enough to grace York with your presence.
The city of York is a fantastic place to eat if you are looking for traditional British cuisine.

Your best bet is to drive and park outside of the York centre and then enjoy a nice walk in. Park on Hull Road in Heslington, near the Travelodge and then walk in. https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/490/York-Hull-Road-hotel
If you want very cheap and cheerful and pet friendly then use the Travelodge on York road in Heslington as mentioned above. You will have free parking and it is a 15 minute walk into York city Centre.
