After winning March's Travfurler Of The Month competition we've been speaking with adventure dog, Skye and her human, Isla about their time exploring The Lake District and further afield. Including what lead Isla to start looking for a rescue, their fun bagging Wainwrights plus agility training.
“𝑫𝒐𝒈𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒘𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅”
From travelling all over the UK and Australia working with racehorses, to then returning home to a riding accident and overcoming the impacts of the injuries... Isla made scarifies with both lifestyle and hobbies on the road to recovery. A shining light within this came Skye, a collie-cross-lurcher who was adopted from the RSPCA at 6 years old.
Skye had been neglected and was severely underweight before two rounds of surgery were required to remove mammary tumours, then a broken toe accident meant their paths seemed destined to cross!
After 2 long months of very limited walks Skye was finally allowed of lead and the zoomies took over. In fact, we're not sure they've ever stopped! Going from strength to strength together, in Summer 2020 the special pair began hiking the Wainwright's in The Lake District. To date they have completed an amazing 166 out of 214, including Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. Skye loves to roll on the summits as a celebration and knows exactly where the sandwiches are kept!
Skye is now 8 years old and living her best life, including being an avid agility dog. Following a break during the pandemic the pair are getting right back into having now competed at their first show this year, with the most recent scoring Skye a winning place!
Moving forward Isla hopes they can tick off all 214 Wainwright's together and have lots more fun at agility competitions.
Isla says Skye is the happiest, friendliest little dog who brings a smile to people's faces. Plus she is the best adventure buddy she could ask for and it's easy to see why!
