New Year’s Resolutions for Dogs
New Year’s Resolutions for Dogs
New Year's resolutions are often difficult to maintain on your own, which is why it helps if you have someone by the side who will keep track of where they stand.
The perfect candidate should be friendly and supportive even when times get tough- as long as those tough moments don't last too long! We've compiled some great New Year’s resolution ideas for dogs along with helpful tips so both parties can enjoy better health and happiness in 2022.
Eat Healthier

Your pup maybe a little more chunky after Christmas, but they are still your best friend. To help them stay that way and avoid health complications like diabetes or heart disease, keep an eye on their diet by feeding them only as much food as they need—and don’t overfeed! They don't have a choice like you and I do! You can also limit treats to cut down calories or choose healthier ones like dried vegetable treats.
If you're thinking about switching to a more balanced diet yourself, stock the pantry for your pup as well. Just like humans with their own diets can be healthier by eating different types of food and swapping out treats from time to time, so should dogs! Add small amounts of steamed broccoli or green beans into both meals and replace their favourite snack in their bowl every once in a while.
Get Active
Our dogs are our best friends. They love us unconditionally and will do anything for the chance to spend time with their favourite people in this world, including walking around a block or two! There might be tons of different ways you can get your furry friend moving though and at Travfurler we would prefer you to try and go a little further! For example, go window shopping at cool pet-friendly shopping centres (even West-Quay in Southampton now allows pets indoors, so no excuses). While exploring new cities go on dog walking tours that include scenic hikes or visit more adventurous spots such as caves and waterfall views along the way. Get speed walking together so both your and their heart rates go up pretty quickly and get burning those calories.
See More of the World
There are so many amazing places to explore, whether it’s hiking in a dog-friendly national park or sleeping under the stars in your motorhome in the Lake District. You can also spend a cosy weekend exploring quaint small towns and villages and taking scenic drives with your pup.
Travelling with pets doesn't always have to be anything extravagant. Try having a look at Petspyjamas for more inspiration on places you can stay together.
Chow Down at a Restaurant
More and more restaurants are catering to the needs of pets, with many offering pet-friendly dining experiences. Some hotels even provide doggy room service menus so your pup can enjoy their breakfast in bed too!
Learn Some New Tricks
Get outdoors together and start bonding more. It's a new year and maybe it is time you work on some new tricks and training. Remember that with any training and tricks repetition is key. If you are not back at work yet, then you have no excuses. Choose your first trick and remember it can take up to 5 repetitions for a dog such as a Collie to learn a new trick. If you have a French Bulldog like us, you will need to add another 5 to that number (55)!
Make Friends at the Dog Park
Dogs and humans alike need socialization. When you take your dog to the dog park, not only does he have a chance of making new friends but you will meet lots more people who love dogs as much as they do! A trip there also helps Fido achieve his fitness goals by giving him space off-leash so that any excess energy gets burned up in exercise while meeting new faces to boot.
Get Microchipped
What better way to ensure you and your pup can stay together through the new year than getting microchipped? Microchips are small devices that cannot fall off like traditional collars, so they work wonders in reuniting lost dogs with their owners. Don't wait another minute- get them one today.
Keep Those Canines Clean
Routine isn't just about you and promising to go to the gym every day, shave every day, eat healthy etc. The routine should be for them too! Maybe this is the year where every evening you will clean, groom, check over and brush their teeth. Think of the vet bills you might save by being more proactive at checking over them daily! Nothing better than seeing your dog with a set of pearly whites!
See the Ocean
There are many dog-friendly beaches out there for you and your pup to enjoy later this year. Make a plan for a summer holiday and do it now before it is too late! Don't forget all the accessories you might need too. Dog sun cream, beach Ruff and Tumble robe and much more!
Spend More Time Together
Conclusion
We all know what it feels like to want more time with our pets. So this New Year, treat yourself and your pup by making some paw-some plans for the both of you. There's nothing better than spending quality bonding moments together like taking a dog-friendly day cruise or having food and drinks at one of those beer gardens near the sea. You'll be able to make memories that will last forever!
