One of the most important ways to give your pet a healthy, happy life is to provide them with proper grooming.
A dog's coat tells their story - it gives us an insight into what type of care they need. So, what kind of coats should you be looking out for?
The following article will provide you with all the info on five types of dog breeds so that you can choose wisely when choosing your new furry friend!
Silky coat: A silky dog's fur tends to be smooth and shiny. Their coats are usually low maintenance, but they need regular brushing, or mats will form.
Dogs with silky coats require minimal grooming because their hair doesn't tangle very much. Some dog breeds with this type of coat include Poodles, Bichon Frise, and Maltese.
Double coated: A double-coated dog's fur consists of a soft, downy undercoat topped by a coarser topcoat. This coat is designed to protect the dog from the elements - cold weather and water in particular.
Double coated dogs need to be groomed regularly to keep their coats free of mats and tangles. They also require frequent brushing to remove dead hair. Breeds with a double coat include Huskies, Shepherds, Malamutes, and Samoyeds.
Puppy: A puppy's coat is thin and short for the first few months of its life. As they grow, their fur becomes coarser and thicker. A puppy's coat is typically very soft, but it does require a bit of extra love in the form of regular brushing to prevent mats from forming.
Puppy coats can be short or long - some examples include Beagles, Terriers, Dachshunds, and Bulldogs.
Curly/wool coat: A curly or wool-coated dog's thick and wavy fur. This coat type can be high maintenance because the hair is prone to tangling and mats.
Curly coats should be brushed daily to prevent knots from forming, and they may also need to be trimmed every few months. Breeds with a curly or wool-like coat include Poodles, Bichons, and Shih Tzus.
Wire coat: A wire coated dog's fur is rough to the touch with a distinct texture - it feels like tightly wound springs! Wire coats are typically low maintenance, but they need regular brushing to prevent mats from forming.
They can also be prone to tangling, so owners should watch their fur when it's wet. Some breeds with a wire coat include Terriers, Pinschers, and Bulldogs.
Smooth/short coat: A dog with smooth or short-coated fur is typically low maintenance when grooming because there are no mats or tangles to worry about. This coat is short and sleek, and it usually doesn't shed very much.
Dogs with a smooth or short coat can be groomed with a simple brush once a week. Breeds with this type of fur include Greyhounds, Boxers, Bulldogs, and Boston Terriers.
So there you have it - five types of dog coats that you should be aware of when adopting a new pet! Each coat type requires a different level of care, so it's important to know what to expect before bringing your furry friend home. Taking care of your pet's coat can be easy and hassle-free with the correct information!
Natural dog coats keep a dog warm. The thicker and longer the dog coat, the warmer it will be to save your pup during cold weather. Longer fur is also great for keeping rain and snow away from their skin!
As discussed above, different breeds have different coats. In addition, the length of a dog's fur indicates how cold it feels to that breed. For instance, dogs with thick undercoats are less likely to feel cold than those with little hair on their bodies. This can be important if you live in a freezing climate and need your pet to stay warm.
Dogs with shorter coats can be prone to skin problems because they don't have the natural insulation that a longer coat provides.
Conversely, dogs with long, thick coats are better able to keep warm in cold weather because their fur traps air and helps to insulate their skin. This is why dogs who live in colder climates often have thicker coats than those who live in warmer areas.
Longer dog hair prevents frostbite and snow from collecting on the fur. These are some of the typical areas which can be exposed to frostbite, and the reason for this is because they have less fur covering these areas.
So, if a dog has longer hair in general, the rest of the body has a better chance at preventing frostbite from occurring; however, you still need to pay close attention to the other areas listed below.
A final fact for you: Some dogs have no undercoat, such as the American Hairless Terrier or Pomeranian, which has no undercoat at all.
Taking care of your pet's coat can be easy and hassle-free with the right information! However, if you need some additional layers, take a look at these Dog Coats in this blog.

]]>Should I take my dog for a walk in the rain? This is a question that many pet owners have asked themselves. Opinions will be divided on this question so lets delve a little further.
In this blog post, we will explore whether or not you can walk your dog in the rain. We will also discuss some of the effects of walking your dog in the rain and why it may not be safe for them to do so!
First and foremost, it is crucial to understand that walking your dog in the rain can be dangerous. Not only can they slip and fall, but they can also become sick if they get wet and cold.
There are a few illnesses that dogs can catch from walking in the rain, such as kennel cough and pneumonia. If you are undecided on whether or not your dog would enjoy walking in the rain, it's best to give it a go and see how they respond.
For example, you can try throwing a ball around on a rainy day and see if they appear happy about this idea!
Walks are the perfect way to keep your dog healthy and happy! They help prevent them from becoming frustrated or upset while also keeping their mind sharp with activity.
A dog owner will often feel torn between caring for their pet and protecting themselves from potential rain. The best course of action, if a heavy downpour, seems inevitable with or without taking your pup out on walks to avoid getting wetter than necessary?
Be prepared by bringing along some extra supplies like an old towel that they can lie underneath while remaining close by; otherwise, you might end up giving them more attention than usual- which isn't exactly what we want when the rain is hammering down on us.
You will want to make sure your dog has an enjoyable walk if you take them out in the rain. Walking outside and seeing puddles are so much fun for dogs, but before doing this, be aware that it may not always go smoothly. This can be due to their natural fear of water or thunderstorms, which could occur, which is all too familiar with many pet owners!
Below I'll explain how walking during these types of weather can still provide some benefits while protecting both pets' health and yours from elements such as wetness-related illnesses.
Depending on the breed, some dogs may only require a quick walk around the block, but others may need some serious miles putting in daily. Daily walks are a great way of fulfilling these requirements while keeping your dog in check emotionally, mentally and physically. However, if it's raining and cold, you may be concerned that taking your dog for a walk could negatively impact their health and well-being.
With the UK being prone to so much rainfall, you could find yourself not taking them out, which could have consequences for you both. You might be concerned that your dog will become unwell from being walked in the rain, but it's unlikely.
A perfectly healthy pup is even less likely to fall ill with wet weather exposure as they have thicker coats and can take longer for moisture to come into contact than shorter-haired dogs could as long you ensure they are quickly dried after returning home.
When it's springtime, the temperature is a comfortable 15 degrees and only lightly drizzling outside, which generally is no problem. However, if you have your dog with you on those cold winter days, taking extra measures to improve their experience can make all the difference!
If you want to keep your dog safe and happy during lousy weather, shorten the duration of their walk.
If they are out long enough, even just an hour in wet conditions, it can make them feel miserable due to water seeping through their dog clothing or rain just hitting their head and ears!
You may find it hard to work out the perfect amount of time for your dogs' walks, but some factors should be considered. First, consider what seems right in terms of breed and reactivity towards rain when deciding on walking destinations. If they are not so happy in the rain, choose somewhere with cover and protection available or don't stray too far from home.
Stay away from puddles: During stormy days, your dog is more likely to become wet, messy and muddy. However, if the rain doesn't completely drench them and put them off, a puddle might or worse, a river! When you take your dog for a walk, make sure to always keep an eye on what they are up to and avoid muddy puddles that can carry bacteria.
Dress them in a dog coat: As a dog owner, you will know there are certain times when they need to wear something on their body that provides protection from the cold and rain. A doggy coat can be used as both an accessory for fashionable dogs or foundational garments in which your pet will keep dry no matter what Mother Nature throws at them!
Many dog coats wrap around your dog's back with Velcro underneath to prevent them from slipping off. They're very effective in keeping the rain off of their neck, back and legs but those coats with adjustable straps around the legs, drawstrings and buckles can help facilitate these features further.
If you want more protection for your dog - such as keeping their paws dry, you could try and push the boat out and pop on some dog rain boots, this will require some patience and time to get them used to these - some breeds are more compliant than others!
Make sure you warm up your dog immediately after your trip out in the rain. As soon as you arrive home, you should put your heating on, wrap a towel or Ruff and Tumble drying coat around your dog and check they are quickly warming up. This will be essential if your dog has become poorly due to the cold and rain.
For extra warmth, you could try placing a heating pad under their dog bed to give a little help and speed up the process.
While some dogs may enjoy going on walks through the rainy days while others don't seem so eager to go outside in such conditions.
You have some options, you could avoid going out and engaging them by playing some sniffing games indoors to tire them out, alternatively, you could use the power of treats and a ball to get them to battle through the rain and slowly adapt to these wet environments.
It would be best if you slowly introduce your dog to the rain and cold weather from an early age, to make them aware of it. Don't push it but make sure if it little and often obviously depending on the weather.
To train a fully grown dog to be fine in the rain, you can start by getting them use to the experience in your garden before heading out on walks. At least they have the opportunity to run back in doors.
If they're still apprehensive about walking in the rain, you should coax them out using their favourite treats and toys. Our go to is dried carrots and a tennis ball. Our boy will do anything in any weather if the ball is involved!
Go for a short walk and then increase the length of time for each walk until they're completely happy with the situation. The one thing you must remember is that it will take time, persistence and patience like any other training does.

]]>Is It Okay to Put Boots on a Dog?
One of the best parts of your pet journey is to take care of your dog and adorn them. Not to forget, they reciprocate your affection and swiftly become one of your family members and all family members need shoes!
For sure, one of your priorities is to comfort your dog, and for this, you need all the best accessories and clothing. But, unfortunately, many things are available that make you indecisive for specific items like dog boots.
Putting boots on a dog is perfectly fine. There are a lot of benefits to making a dog wear boots. Same as your feet, your dog's paws are also soft and can get injured, especially if you have an active pup. Dogs like to run, hike or spend time in extreme weather conditions. So it is perfect for keeping their paws safe and secure. And the best thing is that dog boots look super adorable.
Here are some reasons you should consider putting boots on your dog.
Protection Against Cold:
If the weather is cold or it's snowing, then maybe you noticed your dog licking his paws and licking them. It is an indication that your pup is feeling chilly. Such extreme weather conditions can end up with freezer burn or frostbite, or the least could be severe discomfort.
So making them wear boots will be a great help to their paws against extreme weather conditions. In addition, the dog footwear will keep their feet dry and comfy if they walk for longer.
.
If you are one of those dog parents who like to keep your dog updated with all the fashion and style, then investing in some adorable dog boots is a must for you. You can find dog booties in various sizes and designs that could bring a big difference to the fashion of your puppies.
To start, consider getting an essential pair and see how your dog is reacting and adapting to it. Then, make your dog wear one boot at a time, and gradually they will get comfortable with all four.
Whenever your puppy comes back from a walk, for sure, you want them to get washed and clean before stepping on your carpet or bed. Unfortunately, it gets pretty difficult to wash them after every walk.
Here come the dog booties to help you. Your pooch going out in boots will keep their feet clean, and do not let them bring any dust and bacteria in your house. Also, light dog boots in your home will help you prevent getting paw nail scratches on your laminate or wooden floor. Maintaining the floor with your puppy is even a task as they can get all naughty anytime they like.
Protection against Injuries:
Some dog breeds are suitable for extreme weather conditions and rough surfaces. But still, you need to consider getting them any protection against artificial surfaces like the surface that gets slippery in the rain or hot in summers.
For this, you can go for light boots that are waterproof but do not provide insulation put protection from the rainy season. You can get different booties with harsh de-icing chemicals and salts put on roads for clearing snow for winter walking.
Gives Extra Support:
Your dog can find it difficult to balance when they walk, or they may need some support on slippery surfaces. In this regard, you can get non-slip boots to maintain the balance of your dog and support them.
It is necessary to have an older dog as older dogs are fragile and prone to age-related issues like chronic arthritis. You can get orthopaedic boots for supporting your dog and making them walk comfortably.
Similarly, your young pup is energetic and may get excited while running and playing around the particular, edgy, concrete surface. So get your dog some good boots to let them have better ground grip.
There are a lot of benefits to dog boots. If you are considering investing in some dog boots, we recommend you go for Rukka Prof Dog Paw Boots. These get puts on faster and with ease. It has a longer shaft for protecting the paws against mud or snow. It features a moulded sole for traction and flexibility. Also, these boots can protect an injured foot or sore pad.
Putting on boots on your dog is super helpful to provide them with ease and comfort. In the beginning, it could be challenging to train them with boots, but in the long run, it will be super beneficial.

]]>Here are six steps to take before you go for a run with your pup.
People take advantage of their time off to hit the gym or run at home with friends and family. As time goes on, more people own dogs than ever before and they want to be by them while working out.
Many runners might be wondering if these furry companions can come along for the ride!
The best way would probably depend on what type (or breeds) your pets fall under. Still, generally speaking, it's better than leaving them alone in an empty house since this may result in destructive behaviours like potty accidents caused by a lack of human interaction due to too long hours spent dwelling indoors.
The joy of running with your dog is unrivalled, especially if you do it often enough to lose weight and improve other aspects like mental health.
In addition, the change in scenery can be just what's needed when they're feeling bored or anxious; the sounds that arise from nature provide stimulating exploration for both mind and body alike!
Running with your dog is a great way to get them out of the house and help avoid destructive behaviours.
Vet surgeon John Burns has previously spoken about what you need for this activity. The fundamentals include running shoes or boots, travel water bottles, and cooling items so that both human companions and four-legged partners can take care of themselves during their run.
If you're looking for a long-distance running partner, it may be best to avoid breeds with short noses. Pugs and Frenchies are two popular brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds that would not make ideal partners in this context.
They suffer from overheating quickly during hot weather conditions or prolonged exercise sessions where temperatures exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit/29 Celsius.
Most dogs can handle being walked while at least partly restrained; however, finding your perfect match will take time! Personality type is the most crucial factor when picking out the right canine companion.
What kind of activities do you like? How much time can your spend with them each day or week if they're outside their regular hours at work etc.? This may seem like an obvious thing, but it's surprising how many people don't consider these details until after owning more than one breed!
Secondly, make sure to check with your vet before starting up on any exercise program. For example, if you have a puppy that's still growing or has joint issues, running may not be ideal for them, and it could cause injury, which would decrease the joy associated with this new activity!
If you want to hit your quickest time, it might not be the best idea for two reasons. First of all, remember that dogs need a lot more than just running around outside; they also have horrible potty habits and can become distracted quickly when something is interesting inside or near their favourite play area!
So, you want to start running with your dog? That's great! But don't just clip on their lead tomorrow morning and take them for a 5K run. Can you imagine if someone did that to you when you have never been running before?
Dogs love to run and work up their endurance, so if you want a healthy pet full of life, they need to train just like humans do.
Start by doing an easy mile with your pup on flat ground or in low-impact exercises first before increasing the length of the distance they go each day as long as everything goes smoothly at first!
If they enjoy going farther than what is suggested, don't be afraid to try different routes that suit both parties' tastes; there are many ways around any obstacle in this world (even dogs)!
We all know how noisy and distracting the street can be, which is why it's so important to make sure your dog has learned basic commands before taking them for a run.
You don't want their first time out is a nightmare with them pulling you and dragging you everywhere. Control first, then build momentum later.
Even if you are confident enough to let them off the lead, you need to be confident that you can control, recall and trust them to stay close so that you can keep an eye on them.
There are many types of dog running belts and attachments you can wear when it comes to equipment. A key deciding factor will depend on what feels most comfortable using but be sure whatever belt or harness doesn't restrict any part of your dog's natural movement while running; otherwise, they may injure themselves. Try an EzyDog running belt from us; they work very well.
And one more thing - dogs don't sweat through their skin. They pant. This means that if you push them too hard or corner your dog in a small space, they might hyperventilate and have difficulty breathing, leading to severe consequences!
So always let them catch their breath before going further with the training exercise(s). You and your dog must work as a team, and you will need to be aware of their body language to know how they are feeling or determine if they have had enough.
By following all of these steps, running will hopefully become a fun and enjoyable experience for both of you to stay healthy. You'll be able to bond with your pup in the process! Happy Running!

New Year's resolutions are often difficult to maintain on your own, which is why it helps if you have someone by the side who will keep track of where they stand.
The perfect candidate should be friendly and supportive even when times get tough- as long as those tough moments don't last too long! We've compiled some great New Year’s resolution ideas for dogs along with helpful tips so both parties can enjoy better health and happiness in 2022.

Your pup maybe a little more chunky after Christmas, but they are still your best friend. To help them stay that way and avoid health complications like diabetes or heart disease, keep an eye on their diet by feeding them only as much food as they need—and don’t overfeed! They don't have a choice like you and I do! You can also limit treats to cut down calories or choose healthier ones like dried vegetable treats.
If you're thinking about switching to a more balanced diet yourself, stock the pantry for your pup as well. Just like humans with their own diets can be healthier by eating different types of food and swapping out treats from time to time, so should dogs! Add small amounts of steamed broccoli or green beans into both meals and replace their favourite snack in their bowl every once in a while.
Our dogs are our best friends. They love us unconditionally and will do anything for the chance to spend time with their favourite people in this world, including walking around a block or two! There might be tons of different ways you can get your furry friend moving though and at Travfurler we would prefer you to try and go a little further! For example, go window shopping at cool pet-friendly shopping centres (even West-Quay in Southampton now allows pets indoors, so no excuses). While exploring new cities go on dog walking tours that include scenic hikes or visit more adventurous spots such as caves and waterfall views along the way. Get speed walking together so both your and their heart rates go up pretty quickly and get burning those calories.
There are so many amazing places to explore, whether it’s hiking in a dog-friendly national park or sleeping under the stars in your motorhome in the Lake District. You can also spend a cosy weekend exploring quaint small towns and villages and taking scenic drives with your pup.
Travelling with pets doesn't always have to be anything extravagant. Try having a look at Petspyjamas for more inspiration on places you can stay together.
More and more restaurants are catering to the needs of pets, with many offering pet-friendly dining experiences. Some hotels even provide doggy room service menus so your pup can enjoy their breakfast in bed too!
Get outdoors together and start bonding more. It's a new year and maybe it is time you work on some new tricks and training. Remember that with any training and tricks repetition is key. If you are not back at work yet, then you have no excuses. Choose your first trick and remember it can take up to 5 repetitions for a dog such as a Collie to learn a new trick. If you have a French Bulldog like us, you will need to add another 5 to that number (55)!
Dogs and humans alike need socialization. When you take your dog to the dog park, not only does he have a chance of making new friends but you will meet lots more people who love dogs as much as they do! A trip there also helps Fido achieve his fitness goals by giving him space off-leash so that any excess energy gets burned up in exercise while meeting new faces to boot.
What better way to ensure you and your pup can stay together through the new year than getting microchipped? Microchips are small devices that cannot fall off like traditional collars, so they work wonders in reuniting lost dogs with their owners. Don't wait another minute- get them one today.
Routine isn't just about you and promising to go to the gym every day, shave every day, eat healthy etc. The routine should be for them too! Maybe this is the year where every evening you will clean, groom, check over and brush their teeth. Think of the vet bills you might save by being more proactive at checking over them daily! Nothing better than seeing your dog with a set of pearly whites!
There are many dog-friendly beaches out there for you and your pup to enjoy later this year. Make a plan for a summer holiday and do it now before it is too late! Don't forget all the accessories you might need too. Dog sun cream, beach Ruff and Tumble robe and much more!
We all know what it feels like to want more time with our pets. So this New Year, treat yourself and your pup by making some paw-some plans for the both of you. There's nothing better than spending quality bonding moments together like taking a dog-friendly day cruise or having food and drinks at one of those beer gardens near the sea. You'll be able to make memories that will last forever!

STATISTICS OF CAR SAFETY AND PETS IN AMERICA
No matter how long or short your journey is, it is essential to keep safety in mind for you and all members of your family including pets.
Here are some facts from 2013– Keep in mind we are now surpassing 2021/22

It is important to travel safely with your pet because it reduces risks for both you, them and other passengers. You should never put yourself in danger, or risk hurting someone else who may be riding along on the car seat next time around. You should also always consider other road users.
Dog owners are a loyal and dedicated bunch. A recent survey by the American Automobile Association shows that 80% of people drive with their dogs in cars, which accounts for 43 million households worldwide! But, unfortunately, only 16 percent of these drivers use proper safety restraints when they travel.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were a tremendous 5,687,000 crashes in 2013, with 1,591,000 injuries and 32,719 fatalities. Let that sink in, that was back in 2013, and we are now in 2022. Imagine how many more cars and pets are out on the road. It is estimated that 170,000 children were hurt in these crashes.
Pets were likely in these vehicles when you consider that 34.4 million Americans drive with their pets. Furthermore, over 80% of them were more than likely unrestrained, which means they were potentially injured or at the very least left in shock.
According to a Best Western survey, 51% of travellers with pets say they would always take their pets with them if they could. This same trend is occurring here in the UK.
The National Safety Council reported a staggering 2.5 million rear-end collisions occur every year. This report makes them the most common type of car accident— and these accidents can cause significant injuries or even death for your pets as they are typically located in the rear of the car. This statistic is just one reason to have crash-tested safety products in place.
If a car crashes at just 25mph, which very few of us go so slow, an unrestrained dog can be projected forward at a force 40x greater than its weight. If you have a dog at 13kg, this is bad enough, but if you have one at 40kg, it can sadly be life changing. Having 3,000 lbs or more hitting you at speed will cause death.
According to Jennifer Huebner-Davidson of AAA, even for smaller pets travelling at just 30 miles per hour, an unrestrained 10 lbs dog will exert 300 pounds of pressure in a crash. Without safety restraints like pet-friendly seat belts or dog restraints that can protect you from injury during accidents, this pint-sized pup could become severely injured on impact, and passengers are also at risk.
Make Car Travel Comfortable and Safe for Pets
We have come to learn over time that travelling in the car with pets will throw up lots of different reactions and scenarios. Some will have no problem travelling, but others will despise it! Here are our tips to try and ensure things go a bit smoother:
When you consider these statistics are from back in 2013 in the USA and we know that the UK is sharply following many of the US pet trends it shows we need to be prepared for more pets and cars on the road. The only good news is that with more AI and electric technology in the cars and more sophisticated pet travel accessories starting to appear, we might have a shot at keeping or bringing the statistics back down.
The statistics and data were taken from the following sources.

Creating an excellent routine for your puppy is more than just giving them things to do when they wake up and go out. It's all about picking activities that are fun, engaging, but also productive so you can get the most possible use out of each day while making sure no tasks fall through the cracks!
A successful puppy schedule starts with setting priorities in advance, which means planning before any other plans or obligations arise (e.g., "I'll take care of my pup later today"). You want everything set right.
Example: You'll want to feed your new puppy on a puppy schedule, just like you do. Plan around that and also think about how much exercise they need throughout the day and playtime in between meals or when awake for long periods- the kind where all their energy goes into playing instead of resting!
This will vary depending upon breed but can be helpful info if not addressed early enough, so don't wait until it becomes an issue before thinking through those things carefully. Grooming is also worth considering; what frequency should we wash our dogs at (weekly)? How often depends entirely on whom one has got) And while these may seem unrelated issues initially at a glance.
What is a good routine for a puppy?
In the wild, animals have a particular schedule that they follow. There should also be some order in your home with you as their human caretaker, so it's easy for everyone involved! This can happen by starting small and building up from daycare-like activities in order before breakfast time starts at last—and then we all know what happens next.
With a predefined puppy timetable, you'll know exactly when to expect things from your puppy. Then, you can plan accordingly and get those tasks done without worrying if it's time or not - think of all the hours saved!
By teaching your pup to wait patiently for his food rewards, he will learn that there are certain times and events in which it is appropriate behaviour. This knowledge can help him become well-mannered and disciplined when you're not around! There is nothing better than putting the food bowl down and them giving you two or three looks before you provide them with the nod to go ahead and eat.
You can teach your pup cues that will have them following simple commands, like "follow me" or "stay." This means you'll be able to take the lead when interacting with other people and pets around your home.
The best thing about dog behaviour training is how it builds a natural connection between human-canine pairs which often leads them into becoming inseparable members of our family!
Routines help puppies grow and develop into healthy adults. They provide them with food, exercise and canine boredom busters like toys or treats for mental stimulation. These accessories will keep their brain active, so they won't be overwhelmed by all of the new things in life as well an opportunity to build up their immune system, especially before they are out and mingling.
We all know how it feels when our dogs want attention from us every second of the day. In some cases, they're like little children, only with fur and snouts! But if you wish for some peacetime for yourself, then try creating routines to spend their energy appropriately while knowing what's coming next will be fun (and maybe even exciting).
A puppy without playtime with family members is missing out on the companionship they need and an opportunity to release some of that exuberant energy. But, of course, it's also fun for humans involved!
If you make yourself constantly available to your dog, they might be less likely to control themselves when you aren't around. Without a schedule, it's easy for them to get destructive. Creating an effective routine will make this problem go away.
A dog will not learn or understand what is expected of them by doing something just once. It will take lots of time and patience to create good habits. Knowing how different situations should be responded to in order for consistency with routines makes this possible through repetition.
Using cues to tell your pup what they should expect every day will help them be less mischievous during certain times. For example, if you walk the dog each evening before bedtime, they'll likely learn this signal and know when it's time for sleep without fussing as there are no new adventures!
Don't give up on your puppy! Pups need consistency and a daily puppy routine to feel safe. It can take time for them to learn everything you want from them, but they will grow into great companions that rely on us with patience. They will make travel, work, play and everything all day much more fun for both of you with just a little routine and training.

It was a disaster with my beautiful Shih-Tzu Charley. So I decided to take her on a family outing two miles from our house to the park.
We walked around the field, and my boyfriend decided to throw a football at her. She ran as fast as she could to catch that football. I ignored the fact that it had rained the night before.
Charley ran into a wet sandy area to my horror, and her paws and leg fur went from white to an orange, peach colour. As a first-time dog owner, I knew that I had made the biggest mistake of my life.
My car had a light grey interior and cloth seats, so I tried to find a simple strategy to avoid the chore of cleaning out the car later in the day.
We ended up holding Charley for the entire ride home until I gave her a quick wash down in our bathtub.
But what if I didn’t have a second person? I would have to think of other ways to ensure that mud did not get in my car.
Dealing with muddy paws as an owner is a task that first-time dog owners must strategize before leaving for an outing. If you enjoy going on hikes, playing at the park after a rainy day, or walking around the beach with your dog, then you will need to pack essential items to ensure that your car remains clean.
You want to enjoy your dog, not fret about a mess later. So, check out these eight simple items you could keep in your car just in case you have to deal with some muddy paws. These items are all lightweight, and you can easily pack them in a bag in the back of your car, ready to use if needed. Some of these items also include a quick and easy installation process.
Place a cheap large towel in the back of your car or front of your vehicle before your dog sits down. If you don't have other items to wash his paws, then placing a towel on the seat can prevent the mud from transferring to the interior. The towel does not have to be expensive as you use it to protect your car's interior cloth, as it will get extremely dirty. Buy one from your local department store and pack it in a doggy bag or keep it ready in your car’s trunk. Alternatively, if you prefer something with a bit of style and swagger grab a Ruff and Tumble towel that is like a dressing gown for dogs and get some colour matching Ruff and Tumble Drying Mitts!
Doggy wipes are compact and easy to carry in your vehicle. Wipes can also clean your pups’ paws or other areas that contain dirt to prevent your car from getting dirty.
Compostable Pet Wipe Mitts are essential, reusable, and soothing cleansing mitts that dog owners can easily attach to their pups' paws to clean. These mitts include natural oils such as honey, shea butter, and vitamins that won't harm your dog's skin or fur. Buying these mitts will ensure that your dog’s paws stay clean the entire trip.
A blanket is another way to prevent dirt from entering your car. Blankets are bigger than towels. Therefore, they can cover an entire front seat or back seat without buying multiple blankets. Some companies sell specific dog blankets that will comfort your dog and protect your surfaces.
Some dog blankets are even waterproof, so if your precious pooch is wet or muddy, the blanket will catch it all. If you fancy a tweed one for the winter cold then take a look at this tweed blanket for them.
Dog seat covers are waterproof material that can easily fit over the design of your front seat or back seat. The Pet Rebellion seat cover is a universal, non-slipcover that can fit over any car's front or back seat. Velcro holds the seat cover, making installation quick and easy. Do not fear if you have a small or large dog because the seat cover will accommodate any dog of a particular size or breed.
Booties are the new fashion statement for dogs and dog owners everywhere in the world.
Even though booties are a new fashion trend, some booties help protect a dog's paws from different weather elements such as rain or snow. Rukka Proff Dog Paw Boots provides extra protection before taking that long walk in the park or going hiking. These shoes range from sizes 2 – 8 which offers small and large dogs a chance to protect their feet. Owners will also be able to save their cars.
If your dog already has dirty paws, you will have moments when there isn't a seat cover, towel, or blanket that will save your car's interior. A travel shower is the best way to think ahead of washing your dog's paws on the go before getting in the car. A travel shower can conveniently attach to a water bottle and spray your dog's paws squeaky clean.
Dog owners can conveniently carry Waterless shampoos in a purse, bag, or car's glove compartment. The waterless shampoo does what its name implies – shampoos your dogs without the use of water. It removes dirt by applying it on your dog's paws, rubbing it in, and then using a towel to wipe out the remaining dirt particles. The Nilaqua Mulberry Fragrance also has a pleasant winter scent to it. Wondering if these shampoos work? Find out more here in our 'Waterless Shampoo blog' about them.
The last item dog owners could keep in their car to prevent their dog from getting muddy is a dog jacket. The Rukka Protect Overall Dog Raincoat with Legs can pair well with the paw boots to completely protect the dog's body. Dog paws aren't the only body part that can get muddy; mud can be found on the dog’s body. Keep this jacket in your car with the booties in case that hike or walk turns into a rainy, messy adventure.
Taking your dog for a walk is always a great time and adventure. But you never want to have the extra chores of washing your car. Keeping items in your cars such as a waterproof blanket, towel, or seat cover will protect your vehicle from those muddy paws. Packing items such as waterless shampoo, a jacket, booties, a travel shower, or doggy wipes ensures that you are prepping to keep your car clean and your dog clean from nature on its paws.
Check out these items on our website, as the jackets and booties come in various sizes for different kinds of dog breeds. Also, check out our seat covers, as they are universal for any car brand and model. Make that next hike in the forest the best time of your life and the least of your worries.

The Halti Lead is an excellent option for any dog owner who has experienced problems pulling on the lead.
The Halti Lead is designed to give you control of your dog but still allows them to roam around freely. It's also comfortable and practical! This blog post will discuss how the Halti lead works, what features it offers and where you can purchase one.
The Halti Lead was designed by Dr Roger Mugford to provide control and guidance and to tether a dog in many situations.
The problem with many harnesses is that any dog will naturally pull if wearing one; it's in their nature. The important part is how you respond to your dog pulling.
A double-headed lead such as the Halti has an advantage where a slight tug of the lead attached to the collar will distract them from pulling while you still have the security of the other end of the lead being attached to their harness.
When your dog pulls, stop walking and bring them to a heal. When they stop pulling, you can resume your walk, and if they pull, you simply stop again. These will feel like slow, baby steps, but you are teaching your dog that you are in charge, and it will take time and patience but will create a positive dog walk in the future.
Control is vital for both you and your dog. This is why the Halti Training Lead has two trigger clips for multiple points of connection with other dog walking accessories such as harnesses and headcollars.
It's a versatile, multi-function lead for dogs that pull during a walk. The Halti Lead provides extra versatility and control when paired with no pull training products like Halti Headcollars and Harnesses.
The Halti Training Lead has two trigger clips for multiple connection points with other walking accessories.
The Halti Lead is made from highly durable, lightweight webbing, which feels very comfortable to hold. The lead is strong and is excellent for everyday use, and is perfect for small to medium-sized dogs.
The Halti Training Lead provides some much-needed flexibility on your dog walks. Although it can be used for hands-free walking or taking two dogs together on one lead, it can also be used for short-lead control, long-lead training and supervised tethering.

Multiple Clips
The Halti Training Lead is made with two trigger clips allowing for two points of connection to other dog accessories like the Halti Harnesses & Headcollars, where control & steering are essential.
Working with Your Dog and Not Against them
For dogs that tend to pull on the lead, the Halti Training Lead provides versatility & control, especially when used with Halti training products like Headcollars and Harnesses, which work together to prevent pulling.
Strong and Dependable
Made from lightweight, extremely durable, and water-resistant nylon webbing, this strong dog lead is excellent for extended use during every season. It is great for medium to large-sized dogs.
A Firm Favourite
The Halti range of training products is favoured by dogs and the people who love them in more than 50 countries worldwide. The Halti Lead has become a must-have dog accessory for pet parents & trainers alike.
Features include:
Premium Webbing: It's robust and comfortable webbing making it easy to hold for everyday use.
Double Trigger Hooks: For dual control, hands-free and various obedience training.
Versatile Lead Lengths: There are three connection rings for changing the lead length.
Double Trigger Clips: These make steering and gentle control possible when combined with the Halti headcollars and harnesses.
It is crucial with all training to be calm and to persist. Here are some simple tips to help with using the Halti Lead.
The lead can be used in a variety of different ways. Here are some examples.
We would highly recommend them but don't just take our word for it. Expert reviews have recently tested the best dog harnesses and lead in 2021 and guess who won 'Best Training Lead'? The Halti! The Halti Lead is an excellent choice for dogs, but it has been designed with a key purpose in mind, although it has evolved to be used for many different reasons.
We recommend using a harness with the Halti Training Lead for early walking adventures or if your puppy is pulling. However, please do not use an anti-pulling head collar for any pup under nine months old, as it can cause injury when they're learning how to walk on their terms!
The versatile Halti Lead can be configured to 3 different lengths for relaxed to controlled lead walking. It can also be worn hands-free, which is great for training sessions where you need instant access to other training accessories like clickers and reward treats.
The Halti Lead is a versatile, basic obedience training tool that can be used in various ways. The lead can be shortened for everyday use to create a manageable length for walking and heelwork. The lead can be extended to its full two-metre length for recall and distance work. The double-ended design also allows you to take two dogs on one leash.
Halti is a brand that is now established in the market and was created by a company called 'The Company of Animals', where Dr. Roger Mugford first found it.
Much has changed in 35 years since the founder and world-renowned animal psychologist Dr Roger Mugford created the Company of Animals in 1979. Still, the passion and commitment to training solutions remain as strong as ever.
https://companyofanimals.co.uk/
Working alongside the UK Animal Behaviour Centre, they continue to innovate and provide solutions that are easy to use and work. We continue to work with them and bring them to market at Travfurler!
Many people who buy the Halti Lead will need a harness to go with it, and others want a different lead. Here are some links to help you find what you need!
The Halti Lead provides super versatility and comfort for dog owners who love to travel and go outdoors with their pets and will do wonders to prevent pulling compared to a regular leash. Give it a try - starting at £9.45. They sell out very fast!
]]>They are popular because they have many desirable traits that make them great family dogs! If you're considering getting one as your next pet or just want to know what supplies you'll need when traveling with a Maltipoo, then this blog post is for you!
Height: The typical height of a Maltipoo is dependent on the size of the parents used. They can vary in width from 24cm to 36cms, but are usually on the smaller side of this.
Maltese - not exceeding 25cm;
Poodle - Toy under 28cm; Miniature between 28-38cm
Maltipoo Colours: The typical colours of a Maltipoo can vary and they can be a solid colour that has white markings or doesn't have them.
Maltese: They are generally pure white but some have gentle lemon markings
Poodle: All solid colours
Original Country of Origin: Malta
The Maltese are an early small companion breed. They were in Malta for hundreds of years, but early records date back as far as the 1800s, and were known as the nobility social class lapdogs. They became trendy by the 20th century in Malta and further wide due to their popular looks, attitude, and temperament. They appeared as show dogs in the late 1800s in England.
Original Country of Origin: Germany
Original Poodles were the water retrieving dog, the Standard Poodle. Even though we see some strange haircuts on Poodles these days, the actual reason was not fashion related; they were more about practicality to ensure their hair was not full of water and heavy from swimming. Smaller Miniature and Toy Poodles The Miniature and Toy Poodles were created as smaller versions of the original Poodle so the personality was packaged up into a smaller pup. The smaller poodles worked in circuses thanks to their ability to quickly learn. A Maltipoo can have any combination of temperament of these breeds.
Maltipoos usually travel well and can curl up in their carrier for hours of snuggles! They're gentle, friendly dogs that will make friends easily wherever you go! However it's important to remember not every dog is suited to travel so Maltipoos are best with people who will be attentive to their needs.
The Maltipoo is a small dog, so they can fit comfortably in most carriers. Maltipoos are usually very well-behaved and laid back, but it's always better to have them contained when you're traveling just in case! It's best to purchase a sturdy carrier that your Maltipoo will be comfortable sitting up straight in or alternatively try a K9 Sport Sack to keep them with you at eye level.

The Maltipoo is a crossbreed dog that can be found in two different sizes. The Maltese Poodle mix comes in three types of coats which are wavy, curly and straight hair coat varieties depending on the type of parent breed Maltese or Poodle it has inherited from.
Maltipoos are small dogs weighing between seven to twelve pounds and standing up to thirteen inches tall. Maltipoos are known for their affectionate, loving personalities and make great family and travel pets. Maltipoo dogs can be found in different colours including white, cream, and apricot. Rarer Maltipoo colours include phantom, black, grey, and brown.
The Maltese Poodle mix is an active dog which makes Maltipoos the perfect pet for active families who enjoy frequent walks, jogs or trips to dog parks. Maltipoo dogs are known for their low shedding coats which require only occasional brushing and grooming maintenance between visits with a professional groomer.
The Maltipoo is a small dog, so if you're looking for an outdoor playmate who is big and strong then this might not be the right choice. Maltipoos are known to do best with other dogs and people that they know well; however training can help them adjust!
As a company who are all about travelling with pets and taking them with you wherever you go, we would have to say that this is not ideal. A few hours can be ok but Maltipoos can suffer with anxiety when they are not with you as can many dogs. It really depends on the personality and individual traits but our advice would be no more than 3 - 4 hours and where possible we would always opt for them joining you!
So, you're excited to take your Maltipoo dog on a trip with you, but before you can head out the door, there are some preparations that need to be made.
It's important to make sure that you have all of the supplies needed for your Maltipoo while traveling because it will make both of your trips more enjoyable.
Pet Carrier - Travelling safely with your Maltipoo is important and when they are not walking or when they are a small puppy and you need to bring them home for the first time a carrier will be an absolute blessing. We love the Canvas Pet Car Carrier for Travel because it's easy to assemble and collapse, it's lightweight and durable and folds flat for easy storage.
Beco Collapsible Dog Bowl - Pet bowls can be made from all sorts of materials and come in a number of different shapes and sizes. Maltipoos need small, portable travel bowls that will fit inside the backpack or carrier for when you are on the go. The Beco Bowl fully collapses to the point of it being flat. We would recommend going for a medium size for your Maltipoo.
The Ruffwear Basecamp Dog Bed - Maltipoos have some energy they like to exert but once they do and especially as they start to get a little older they love power naps and need somewhere safe and comfy to lay down when travelling. The Ruffwear basecamp dog bed creates a place for dogs on the go and this bed is comfortable, easy-packing, easy-cleaning sleeping mat. Low-profile corner bolsters and dog crate-friendly dimensions mean your dog has a versatile and minimal landing spot for settling down and squeezing in a snooze before, after, or en route to their next adventure.
Ruff and Tumble Robe - Wrap them up and make them snug as a bug especially after they have been in the water or cold. Maltipoos are renowned for having thick coats that take effort to dry and hair that tangles. You may not having a hair dryer and other items on the move but you won't go far wrong with a Ruff and Tumble robe as a starting point. Wrap up and get warm.
Fetch It Poop Bags - This is an easy one. I have tried many and you need handles, you need them to not rip and you need compostable. The only poo drama you should be accommodating is the Malti'poo'. Get it?...
Ruffwear Front Range Harness - The options are endless but you wanted the one which will suit your Maltipoo and will be great at not irritating them then go Ruffwear. Your Maltipoo will thank you.
Doggy Haul Weekend Bag - Lastly, to hold of these excellent choices you have made you will need a bag and not just any bag. Why stop now? This bag comes with sturdy, waterproof material that's easy to clean, a removable shoulder strap, and plenty of room for gear. In fact, it comes with up to 37L of volume!
Wait a minute I hear you say...what about the renowned K9 Backpacks everyone is getting! Is my Maltipoo not suitable for this? Of course they are but that is a whole other topic for you to start researching and I think you should start here...A K9 Sport Sack Comparison - Which one is right for you?
Your Maltipoo will love travelling with you as they love nothing more than sticking with their fellow companion. They can be sensitive to a lot of change but they also suffer from separation anxiety so don't leave them at home, keep them close by and get them used to travel and adventure from a young age. Do this by using the right pet travel gear and encouragement, and enjoy amazing adventures together!

Made with cornstarch and certified to the highest European standards EN 13432. They are also certified and suitable for home composting! Join the compostable revolution. Available here Fetch It Compostable Poop Bags
It is not just about carrying the poop bags, storage is also a consideration. Poop bags are better if they are compostable meaning they have a much higher chance of breaking down into the worlds natural elements rather than further polluting our plant. It is not wise to leave dog poop outdoors as it is a fast way of spreading disease. Once you have bagged it, you may have nowhere to store it so a poop bag holder can store it without it stinking you or your car out whilst you transport it.
Each collar features dual stainless D-rings. Once your leash is attached through both loops it takes pressure away from the opening buckle thus providing peace of mind, whilst also helping to bear the pull and force from your dog. Dog Walking Equipment - Ezydog Double Up Dog Collar
A dog collar is a great practical item for your dog to wear and really is of your dog walking essentials. Many people choose not to because they opt for a harness nowadays for safety reasons, but we would suggest wearing both. We use the harness for lead attachment and we use the collar for clipping on the ID tag and a night dog safety light.
This leads us on to the worrying but necessary requirement next. The ID tag. You can be fined up to £5,000 in the UK if your dog does not wear an identification tag when outdoors. This is stated in the control of dogs order act 1992 which was in put in place so any dog out in public must have a collar or harness with the owners name and address engraved or written on it. This won't be a problem for most of us because we would obviously want our pup returning asap if they went missing.
One suggestion: Leave your dogs name off the tag as this only helps dog thieves to make it look like they own the dog.
The classic and best-selling harness of the Ruffwear range, the Ruffwear front range harness has been tried and tested around the world on all kinds of doggy adventures time and time again. Ruffwear Front Range Harness
For the best dog adventure gear you will not go far wrong when choosing dog gear brands such as Ruffwear.
Dog harnesses are a wonderful device that make dogs safer and more manageable. They ensure dog owners have the ability to guide their dog with a great deal of control. In addition, dog harnesses help dogs stay relaxed while out for a walk and they can be helpful in some behaviour training exercises. Dog owners may find that dog harnesses provide them more physical strength when walking their dog due to the fact that it allows you to use your body instead of just your hands.
They give dog owners the ability to guide and control their dogs, keeping them away from potential danger. Depending on the character and temperament of both dog and owner, significant levels of force may need to be exerted through the lead, harness and collar, which is where the sticking point lies… dog harnesses are often designed to be very secure and dog owners may not have the strength or stamina to hold onto their dog if they become frightened, excited or agitated.
This is why it is important for dog owners who choose a dog harness over other walking equipment, such as collar and lead combinations , that they can put immense strain on your arms,
A functional shock absorber dog lead which is outstanding at reducing the pulling and jolting affects often endured with an enthusiastic dog. EzyDog Shock Absorber Dog Lead
Dog walking leads are the fundamental connection between the dog owners hand and the dog. It's very important that the lead is secure, strong and practical. But nowadays, leads have many more features than many years ago. You can get dog gear such as designer leads, waterproof, easy to clean leads, Flexi leads and a whole manner of different styles.

Carrying a dog bowl with you when walking your dog is important. There are collapsible bowls which are very easy to carry, but are also sturdy enough for use at home or on the go. Some of these bowls are made from silicone.
Beco Collapsible Dog Bowls come in a variety of sizes and colours, so there is one that will suit every dog owner's needs. Pet first aid kits are very useful to have around when you're out and about with your pet. Small injuries can and do occur and it's great to be prepared for such a situation. Here's a quick run through on what they typically contain along with some other items that would make a good addition.
- Tweezers - Useful for removing splinters, ticks or anything else that might get stuck in their paws or fur!
- Scissors - For cutting bandages if needed
- Eye dropper/Syringe - If your pet is sick, this will help to make giving them medication much easier!
- Cotton wool balls and cotton buds - For cleaning wounds before using bandages
- Antiseptic spray/wipes - To clean the area before using a bandage
- Antibiotic cream/ointment - Useful for treating any infections or cuts. Always read the instructions on these carefully first though!
- Insect repellent (for dogs) - Dogs can get bitten by bugs just like us humans, so it's always useful to have some insect repellent to hand
- Sun cream (for dogs) - Especially if they have light coloured fur, it's important that you protect their skin from getting sunburnt.
These are technical dog paw boots for heavy use and challenging conditions. They are comfortable shoes with an extremely durable, moulded, and flexible sole which offers increased flexibility and traction for each step. Rukka-proff-dog-paw-boots-dog-apparel

Also, they protect against rain and other substances on the road such as salt or chemicals from ice melt. The boots come in different sizes so you can find one that fits your pet perfectly! They also have Velcro fastenings on the back of them so it's easy to put them on.
This Rukka yellow dog raincoat is even better when you see it in person! Lightweight, easy to pack away and completely waterproof. It has a handy slot which enables you to connect your lead and harness. Dog Walking Equipment - stream-raincoat-yellow
Dog jackets are great because there are so many styles and a lot of functionality you can make use of. However, what someone needs for climbing Snowdon with their dog in winter vs someone who is going to a park on crisp autumn day will be very different so make sure to choose one based on your needs.
- The first type of dog coats you can get are raincoats. These work to protect the dogs from getting wet if it starts raining while they're out on a walk, which is great for those who live in places with frequent rainfall or even just love going outside during downpours. The Rukkas with leg coverings are great for this.
- One other popular kind of coat people like to use is a winter coat. These obviously work best in the colder months and are very popular for people who love going on walks with their dogs even when it's really cold outside. They typically have a fleece lining and do well at keeping your dog warm. Some are even 2in1 coats and are reversible.
- Another popular type of dog coat are the ones that have harness holes. There is a huge demand for dog coats with a harness portal. These allow your dog to wear the coat over the harness without blocking access from your lead attaching to it.

]]>Many travellers who live in the UK and have a pet often wonder whether or not Eurostar is pet friendly and want to know if they can travel on the Eurostar with their furry friend. This article will address all your questions about travelling on the Eurostar with pets, and help you make an informed decision about what is best for you and your four legged friend!
The Eurostar is a high speed train service that runs between London and Paris. It also connects to other major cities in Europe such as Brussels, Lille, Calais, etc. The Eurostar was created with the aim of making it easier for people travelling from one city in Europe to another by reducing travel time drastically while still providing comfort and convenience.
The Eurostar has been running since 1994, when it first started its operations between London and Paris after an agreement was made in 1989 to establish a high speed passenger rail link through the Channel Tunnel. Now there are also Eurostar's that operate from Brussels to Lille, Calais and Marne-la-Vallie for Disneyland Paris.
The Eurostar is a very convenient means of transport in Europe if you are travelling from one city to another - even between countries which might be geographically far apart, but at the same time close enough so that they can be linked by high speed railways like London and Brussels.
Unfortunately, Eurostar is not pet friendly and does not allow dogs or cats on their trains. The exception to this rule is guide dogs, however the Pet Industry Federation reports that only one of over 500 guides dog owners surveyed actually uses a guide dog because they cannot travel with ease by any other means.
The Eurostar's policy forbids all pets on their trains, as well as on the platforms and in stations. This can be a big inconvenience to those who own pets or travel with them frequently throughout Europe! Despite the inconvenience there are still many other options to get from the UK to Europe and back again which we will discuss further on.
Did you know: PetsPyjamas.com were campaigning for Eurostar’s policy regarding pet carriage to change so that they are allowed to take your furry friend with you when travelling?
If Eurostar were pet friendly imagine how quick we could get from the UK to Europe with our pets and vice versa! To get from London to Paris on the Eurostar it takes only 2 hours and 15 minutes, whereas by car (or ferry) it can take up to seven hours!
Travelling with cats is prohibited. We know that travelling with cats is just as amazing as travelling with dogs. Catventurers are joining in on the fun everywhere. Unfortunately the same standards apply and they are not allowed on the Eurostar.
The Eurostar's policy forbids cats as well as dogs on their trains and this includes them joining you on the platforms and inside the stations. Once again if you are a Catventurer there are options so don't right off the opportunity of them purring in Paris just yet!
When writing this I did suddenly wonder if guide cats exist and do the same guide dog principles apply, surely not. Looking into this further we found cats cannot be guide animals. It seems obvious but it had me run a quick Google check to be sure and I would have definitely asked the audience on 'Who wants to be a millionaire'.
Can a cat be a service animal? The short answer is no. In fact, cats cannot become any kind of service or assistance animal so they cannot find any way of joining you on the Eurostar ride.
An increasing number of people are choosing to take their pets with them when they go travelling. This is one main reason why the Eurostar have had so many requests and petitions regarding pets on their trains, but unfortunately it seems that there will still be no change in this policy anytime soon.
The most recent attempt to get the Eurostar train company to change their policy and allow pets on their trains was in June 2014. Pet Pyjamas, a UK dog-friendly holiday provider launched a campaign petitioning for designated pet carriages that would be safe and comfortable for both human and animal passengers alike.
Playing devils advocate here: Apparently, the strict import regulations do not allow travel on Eurostar because there are no check points to check all the paperwork for our pets. The Eurostar can keep going and going from one country to another without checks in place for pets whereas the Eurotunnel as a different example has only one check-point where your pets documents are checked over. That particular checkpoint has a pet area for documentation checks and has over 600 cameras scanning the 650 hectares of the Eurotunnel’s Calais site. Eurostar could argue that they are preventing certain diseases from passing through to protect livestock in different countries. I, like many others would argue that some simple processes are put in place to enable us to travel with our pets.
Something to note here is that the Eurostar and the Eurotunnel are two very different modes of transport. For a start, one is by foot and the other is by vehicle and one is pet friendly and the other is not.
Here is a table showing the difference between the two and which one you can travel with pets on.
Eurostar | Eurotunnel | |
---|---|---|
Transport Method | Passengers by foot | Passengers in vehicles |
UK to France Time | 2 hours 15 | 35 minutes |
Pet Friendly | No | Yes |
Pet Documents Required | NA | Yes |
The Eurostar operates differently to the Eurotunnel. The Eurotunnel goes from point A to point B whereas the Eurostar has several routes and countries if operates through which lack pet check points.
The Eurotunnel has a pet area for documentation checks and has over 600 cameras scanning the 650 hectares of the Eurotunnel’s Calais site. Once pets are checked over i.e. documentation and vaccines all up to date, Eurotunnel can guarantee that pets who are travelling to that country are not going to pass any animal diseases over.
Eurostar say they take the safety and comfort of passengers seriously. This includes working with a number of organisations to ensure that assistance dogs travelling onboard are able to continue their journey in the same safe and comfortable manner as all other passengers. Currently any guide or assistance dog - including hearing dogs for deaf people have access rights on Eurostar. Assistance dogs must be clearly identified and Eurostar recommends that they wear a coat or jacket with the Eurostar logo on it. Guide & assistance dog owners travelling through Eurostar checkpoints are required to provide:
A valid (national or international) 'dog pass' for their guide/assistance dog, issued by an authority in charge of working animals
After researching, it seems that there are not many alternatives for travelling with pets between the UK and Europe besides driving or flying. The Eurotunnel does allow foot passengers to bring their pet but they require proof of vaccination history as well as an up-to-date EU Pet Passport to travel through them.
You could also choose another form of transport to travel with your pet and the other option is a holiday cattery. A cabin on board a ferry or cruise ship could be an alternative for travelling with pets between UK and Europe that do not seem too expensive either.
Here are four options which will require some research and a dash of effort for travelling with your bundle of fur.
A Summary but you will need to investigate the details due to changes happening all the time.
On the train from London to Harwich your dog travels free. On the ferry, you must reserve a kennel during the online booking process for an extra £17 each way. On the Dutch domestic trains between Hoek van Holland, Rotterdam & Amsterdam or Utrecht, small dogs or cats in containers on your lap travel free of charge, but if you have a larger dog you'll need to buy a dog day-ticket (Dagkaart Hond) for €30.
A Summary but you will need to investigate the details due to changes happening all the time.
Get a taxi or dog friendly Uber from Folkestone to Calais via the Eurotunnel shuttle. You may pay between £100 to £200 but they can take up to three of you and it keeps you all together for the journey. It will certainly be an interesting conversation in the taxi whilst sat on the shuttle. Make sure he flicks the air conditioning on to really cool the car down before you get on otherwise you and your dog may feel a little warm on there. You can then hop on more dog friendly trains through France until you get to Paris.
A Summary but you will need to investigate the details due to changes happening all the time.
The Newhaven-Dieppe ferry is a French car and passenger service which operates between the two ports of Dieppe in France and Newhaven in England. The crossing takes around 90 minutes, depending on weather conditions (the ship will not sail if it’s too rough). Once at the Newhaven you can then take an DFDS ferry across the Channel from Newhaven to Dieppe (www.dfds.com), and then a domestic pet friendly French train to Paris.
A Summary but you will need to investigate the details due to changes happening all the time.
Phone them to book you and your pets on as foot passengers, don't just book online or you may get a surprise when you arrive and not be allowed to take your pets. Grab yourself a pet cabin to ensure you can travel together in comfort.
If you’re at all interested in travelling with your pet without issue, be sure to do some research before booking any train tickets. The Eurostar is one of the only trains that doesn’t allow pets on board for reasons unknown - but if it were up to us, we would have our little furry friends join us! We know there are a lot of great products out there that can help make other train journeys happen without issue - so if you're looking for dog travel gear or cat travel gear, check out what's available here at Travfurler. ]]>How cute is a yellow dog raincoat? A yellow puppy raincoat may be the best thing since sliced bread to dog lovers who live in rainy weather. On top of that, a yellow dog raincoat always stands out in sharp contrast to the brown, black, or other natural colours of your canine companion.
Plus, a yellow dog raincoat is one of the best ways to keep your pet safe if the rain is heavy enough to impair visibility, as we will discuss below.
The yellow raincoat had a long road to travel to where it is now all the rage in fashion for humans, along with the yellow dog raincoat for canines.
The story of the yellow coats started in the rough seas around Scotland, where sailmakers in the 19th century found that it became naturally waterproofed if they used linseed oil in finishing their sails. So, that same oil started to be painted over sailcloth (used to make seamen's clothing).
Over time, the treatment turned the sails and the capes worn by seamen yellow. The oilskin became indistinguishable from its yellow colour. However, it also turned stiff and heavy with time, so there were drawbacks.
Between 1823 to 1840, Sir Thomas Macintosh devised a raincoat using rubber and naphtha strips layered between cloth to form the outer layers. Soon, vulcanization was added to create the waterproof, rubbery vests that came to be known as the "macs" – named after the inventor Macintosh. After he and his partner Hancock released them to the general market, they caught on like wildfire.
By the mid-19th century, the macs were famous all over the British Isles. However, the seamen continued to favour the yellow macs since they were used to the colour and found it extremely helpful that the colour stood out during bad weather on high seas, especially being visible through fogs.
Somewhere in the past few decades, the yellow raincoat (no one calls them "macs" any longer) has made a massive comeback for its classic look. The yellow dog coat is one of the later manifestations and is now generally identified as an excellent and practical dog coat. We have moved on from spotting men in the sea to dogs in the road!
A puppy raincoat is necessary for places like the UK, Northern Europe and Canada, where the cold and rain make warmth and dryness essential for outdoor dogs. However, people want more than just a dry dog, they want a stylish dry dog. One of the big players for yellow dog coats comes from a brand known as Joules. Joules have a great dog coat range but they are not the only yellow dog coats available nor are they the most practical!
Every magazine that talks about dog fashion are sure to have articles, spreads and examples of yellow dog coats simply because they are trendy and functional.
For example, here's an adorable photo from Pawsh, the Canadian magazine, about their best dog raincoat for 2019:
Sure enough, it's a yellow dog raincoat!
No wonder every retailer, be it Walmart, Amazon, Etsy, or others, always features many versions of the yellow dog raincoat. Here's a yellow dog coat with a hood sold on Amazon:

Here's another "stylish" yellow dog coat with hood from Ellie Dog Wear:

We can go on, but you get the point. The yellow dog raincoat is everywhere, and it's the "in" thing in the rain.
At Travfurler, we offer multiple branded yellow dog coat designs, including a puppy raincoat and a yellow dog coat with a hood. Let me run you through some of your options.

]]>The weather in the UK is often rainy and stays chilly for large parts of the year. As a result, working dogs, or simply pets that need outdoor exercise, can get cold, wet, and miserable when out and bored when left indoors regularly.
With this in mind, the best solution for your cold pup doesn't always need to be a dog coat. Instead, it may just be a dog fleece jumper that is the perfect accessory!
Any old random knitted dog jumper won't keep your pet dry and protected. Instead, try the Polartec dog fleece jumper from Equafleece or great alternatives such as the Hotterdog jumpers, all from a trusted vendor for more than 20 years. Equafleece® dog fleece sweaters will keep the cold out and leave them dry.
Not only are Equifleece’s Polartec® dog fleece jumpers warm and rainproof, but they will also actually help to dry your dog. The secret is in the materials used and the design of the dog fleece jumper.
Equafleece® dog fleeces are made in such a way that several things happen:
The specific material used in the dog fleece jumpers is high performance woven polyester Polartec® 200 fleece, which is used to produce gear for mountaineers. So, dog owners can be confident of its performance.
The design is specifically suited to dogs outside during cold, wet, and muggy weather. A combination of the non-absorbent material and the design that allows body warmth to permeate and dry the outside surface makes the difference.

The Equafleece dog jumpers have several other features that make them appealing to dog owners all over the world:
The many features in the dog fleece sweater may make you feel like the sky's the limit in terms of the various conditions and uses you can put the dog jumper in.
While that is mainly true with Hotterdog and Equafleece's superbly designed dog fleece jumpers, there are a few precautions that you should take.
Here are a few of the main things to avoid:
Equafleece makes dog fleece sweaters with several customised fittings, but with certain long hair dogs, especially those that tend to mat a lot, the dog jumper may initially prove uncomfortable, but this is rare, and they soon get used to it.
As with any dog accessories and clothing, you should watch your pet and make sure they are comfortable.
The best place to buy a hotter dog fleece sweater is from Travfurler. https://travfurler.com/products/hotterdog-dog-fleece-jumper
There are a huge number of choices, with design, colours, sizes and other customized features so you can choose what dog jumper is best suited for your furball.

]]>The secret behind Mushers Secret Paw Wax has been revealed! This is a product used by many pet owners to keep their dog's paws protected. The reason this wax works so well is because it contains beeswax, which helps protect the paw pads from snow and ice. If you're looking for an awesome new way to protect your pup's paws during the winter months, then check out this post!
Many people are familiar with Mushers Secret Paw Wax, but do you really know the secret behind it? The company is dedicated to creating products that will protect your dog's paws from winter weather conditions. Winter can be extremely hard on our furry friends because they can't wear shoes or socks to keep their paws warm and dry. However, paw wax helps them by providing a layer of protection against ice build-up and snow accumulation. If you're looking for new ways to help your pet during this cold season, then continue to read below.
The best way to use Musher's Secret Paw Wax is by applying it every time before they go outside in the winter (or any time if there's an extreme change in temperature).
Lets dig into the details.
Musher's Secret Paw Wax is used to protect dogs' paws from ice and snow during the winter months. If you're looking for an awesome way to help your pet, then I suggest using this wax!
Many owners use this wax on their dog's paw pads because it prevents snow balling and protects them from the icy cold. Some people use it on sidewalks and streets to prevent the acid residue that ice Melter leaves behind, too.
If you're looking for an amazing way to help your pet's during this cold season, then I suggest using Musher's Secret Paw Wax! This wax is specially formulated to provide a protective layer between their paws and snow or ice build-up.
Dogs love to run and play, which means there is a chance they will get injured. Some common injuries are cuts, scrapes, burns or broken nails. Cuts may not seem like a big deal but without proper care they can become infected leading to fever and other health issues. Toxins in burned skin can also cause infections, fever and other health issues. Blisters on the pads of dog paws are not to be taken lightly either. They should be carefully popped or drained by a veterinarian to keep out infection.
Limping is another sign that there is something wrong with the dogs foot. If your dog is limping it's best to take them to a veterinarian to get treated. If the limping gets worse or doesn't get better after treatment it's best to take your dog in for an x-ray. You should always keep an eye out for:
Remember: Prevention is always better than the cure.
Mushers paw wax should be used because it helps provide a layer of protection between the ice, snow, and salt that's on the ground. This means that your pet won't have to walk through these harsh winter elements with their sensitive paws being so exposed.
Another thing to consider is the fact that it helps strengthen and support your dog's paws! It can also help protect their paws from any type of injury or irritation during the winter months.
Musher's Secret Paw Wax can be bought here - Travfurler - Mushers Secret Paw Wax. Sign up to the newsletter in the footer for a further 5% discount too!
Mushers secret Paw wax is made of all natural ingredients, including beeswax and Vitamin E leaf extract! The reason this wax works so well is because it was designed for this specific purpose, and has been tested on a huge number of dogs. It is completely safe to use, non-toxic, and even smells great!
Mushers Secret is a blend of 100% pure natural waxes which include white and yellow beeswax, carnauba, and candelilla wax plus vegetable oils with vitamin E.
Carnauba wax is also commonly referred to as Brazil wax and even palm wax. It is made from the leaves of the copernicia prunifera palm by drying the leaves, beating them, and then separating the loosened wax. It is then refined and bleached. Carnauba wax can help seal in moisture on your dog's paws which can give them relief from dry, itchy patches.
Carnauba wax is known to have many benefits including being an antioxidant, conditioning skin, and giving a slight waterproofing effect. It is commonly used in many different products to help seal in the moisture and protect your skin from further damage. Carnauba wax can be found in lip balm, sunscreen, lotions, soaps, wood finish, car waxes, shoe polish and even dental floss.
To apply Mushers Secret paw wax, you should take a small amount of the product between your thumb and fingers. Then, you can apply Mushers paw wax to their paw pads one foot at a time - making sure to work the wax in well!
To ensure that your pet doesn't lick it off before it has time to absorb into their skin, you may want to have their feet wrapped up for a few minutes. This can be done by wrapping a bandage around the foot and keeping it on for about 5-10 minutes.
Musher's secret paw wax should only need to be applied once a day during extremely cold, winter weather. If you can tell your pet is licking it off, then we recommend applying it in the morning and before bed.
If you use Mushers paw wax during less harsh weather, then we would recommend reapplying every time after their walks or outdoor playtime. Remembering to grab the poop bags, bring the dog water bottle, collapsible pet bowl and Mushers Secret Paw wax can be a lot for every adventure you go on. I would recommend downloading an app which can hold a list of items you need to remember to do. This can be pretty handy if you have kids as well as pets.
Mushers secret paw wax works very well and far better than other alternative, cheaper products which could actually cause pain of discomfort to paws. Many people have even used it on their own heels never mind the dogs and found it to be excellent! We are big fans of it personally as our little Frenchie loves to zoom around and always skids to a halt which can cause paw issues but we look after them with Mushers.
You want to use enough Mushers's secret paw protection wax so that there is an even coating over all four paw pads. If you were only to use a thin coat then it would be easy for your pet to lick off and swallow. We recommend using just enough wax so that you can see some residue on their paw pads after application. It should feel like there is a protective layer which is both soft and strong.
The amount of time this product lasts will vary depending on the weather conditions. If it's extremely cold outside then you may need to reapply more often than usual.
Musher's Secret Paw Wax comes in a small tub weighing in at 60 grams meaning it is perfect to carry with you on your travels.
The benefits of using a good paw wax are that it helps protect your dog's paws from the harsh winter elements as well as any injuries. It can also help strengthen and support their paw pads as they walk, run, and play throughout the season.
One of the best things about this product is that dogs absolutely love the smell! After they apply it to their paws, most pets will enjoy having their feet touched and rubbed. This helps promote bonding with you, which is definitely a positive!
If you want to give your dog a good winter protection on their paws, look no further than Musher Secret Paw Wax! ]]>Many questions have been asked about this dog car harness so here are a few answers to help. There are two types of dogs: those who love riding in a car and those who simply cannot stand even a short journey. There is generally no middle ground.
There are several ways to protect your pup and help them feel secure in your vehicle, but there is only one approach that has been proven to be the most effective: a dog car safety harness.
An EzyDog Car Harness brings both comfort and reliable security for your best friend, especially for those dogs who have trouble feeling comfortable in any type of vehicle. More secure than any dog seat belt on the market, the Dog Car Harness helps car-friendly dogs enjoy the ride even more and help alleviate some of the stress many dogs may feel in the car.
Here’s a look at all that the EzyDog Car Harness offers and how it compares to a standard dog seat belt.
Part of the “Drive” range the EzyDog Car Harness, which attaches to your car’s strong seat belts, integrates customised sizing for the most secure and comfortable fit available. It's a dog car safety harness that's also easy to use; in just seconds your dog is latched in but it still offers freedom of movement.
You cannot get both with the standard dog seat belt, just with a specially designed dog harness for car travel.
Unlike most dog seat belts, the Dog Car Harness comes in multiple sizes to accommodate most dogs. The small dog car safety harness is specifically designed for dogs between 15 and 35 pounds, and the medium works weighing 35 to 65 pounds, and a large fits dogs 65 pounds or over.
The EzyDog Car Harness' materials also set it apart; only the highest quality and strongest materials go into creating the dog car safety harness, from the aluminium alloy tri-glides that are light yet durable to the webbing that’s made from crash-tested seat belt webbing. The materials are strong but are simply to clean when it is used as a normal dog harness out in the dirt and rain. Simply use a mild detergent to hand-wash and then air dry.
It is very easy to fit the harness to your dog. A car ride with your dog can be a struggle even before you get on the road. For those using traditional dog seat belts, it can be difficult to get it to lock in, remain in and fit well to your dogs’ other accessories.
The EzyDog Car Harness works differently. Because there’s one simple fit, you only need to secure your dog once — no fumbling around every few minutes to make sure your pup is secure and happy.
This type of dog car safety harness is as easy to put on as it is to take off especially with its innovative dual buckle closure system. Since the ergonomic chest plate area is designed in a contoured way that fits the shape of your dog perfectly. In addition, it includes double d-rings for leash attachment, a nice touch for a dog harness for car travel.
Dog seat belts promise security and work pretty much the same way as a human seat belt. They can also lead to too much movement in the back seat, something that can impact their safety in the event of both small and serious crashes.
Instead, a dog harness for car travel like the EzyDog Car Harness help spread a sudden jolt’s impact across your dog’s body, whether it comes from a hard break or a fender-bender. That force spread has been shown to greatly reduce the risk of injury to dogs in a back seat.
On the other hand, a dog seat belt, which is usually attached to the collar, may cause neck injuries to your dog if you break quickly or get into an accident. That is far less likely to happen with an EzyDog Car Harness.
The Dog Car Harness also prevents your dog from making dangerous moves in the car. Unlike a seat belt, the dog car safety harness fully prevents a dog from jumping quickly into the front seat or tumbling forward if you make a sudden stop. With dog seat belts, the over restraint is greatly limited.
EzyDog harnesses are some of the best around. They're crash tested, very strong and work with your cars inbuilt seatbelt to stop your dog from roaming which means you won't break the law in the UK and can leave it on as a comfortable dog walking harness when they leave the car. Did you notice the easy to grab webbing handles too? What's not to love..
Yes, the harness is crash tested and has undergone rigorous testing. While safety testing and standards continue to emerge in the pet industry, EzyDog developers wanted to offer a product that was tested to the most widely recognized government safety standards. This particular testing facility is recognized by the USA (FMVSS 213) Europe (ECE Regulation 21) Australia (ADR42/04) for certification of Child Safety Seats. Dog harnesses for car travel and dog seat belts are designed to keep a dog secure and keep owners in control of their pet’s safety, but only one option emphasises comfort as well.
EzyDog’s soft-touch webbing makes a difference, sporting a lining made of neoprene that minimizes the painful pinching or chafing that occurs with dog seat belts and other dog car safety harnesses.
A dog that is uncomfortable in its seat can be dangerous in a fast-moving car. The tendency to move around in the back seat or jump to the front seat area — or even jump out of an open window — could take over.
Blending a secure fit with a fully comfortable one is the cornerstone of EzyDog’s Car Harness.
You can buy the EzyDog car harness online at Travfurler
As a pet owner, there are a lot of choices to make when figuring out an approach to securing your dog for a comfortable and safe ride. An EzyDog Car Harness is a reliable way to ensure safety, especially when compared to a standard dog seat belt.
Not only is the EzyDog Car Harness easy for owners to use, requiring just a few quick steps and working with your existing car seat belts, the high-quality materials gently yet firmly cradle your dog’s body no matter their size. The lightweight yet incredibly strong materials in the dog car safety harness are designed to last.
Safety is paramount at EzyDog and that’s why the company safety tests all its dog car safety harnesses, making it the top option for long drives or short trips. It’s the perfect fit for a dog who fears a car and has trouble sitting still as well as dogs who love a road trip.
With the EzyDog Car Harness, your dog will feel unparalleled comfort and security while you’re behind the wheel. It's a dog car safety harness that really does make you and your dog feel safe.

Why should you consider the Ruffwear dog beacon light?
It would be best to consider choosing the Ruffwear high-performance safety dog light because it will enable you to keep your dog visible in low light conditions and during dark winter walks.
When outdoors, you need equipment that is waterproof, tough, and quick and easy to attach. The Ruffwear light achieves all of this, and you can configure it to be any colour you like.
The beacon dog light is rechargeable and has indicator lights to monitor the battery life or display when it is on charge. You can cycle through three different LED colours and light modes to ensure it is configured in colour and function for your dog walking needs. The Ruffwear Beacon is easily visible from all directions thanks to its bright, full-body glow design.
Why choose a Ruffwear Beacon dog light? In this day and age, we are already worried about our dog's safety. With the Covid-19 pandemic recently causing a surge in puppy prices, the potential for losing your dog and them being injured or stolen is more daunting now than ever before.
Dog theft is on the rise, and losing your dog in the woods or fields when chasing something can cause that empty, sick feeling we would all prefer to avoid. The thought of losing them is petrifying for many, and then there's the worry about dangerous terrains such as cliffs, the sea, rivers, heavy machinery and roads.
We're their companions, and we love them so much. But, unfortunately, they can't speak to tell us where they are or what's happened, so it's down to us humans to keep an eye on them at all times or hope they are good at barking so we can track them down.

There are many ways to see your dog in the dark when walking at night. Most people will opt for a torch to help them see their dog. The torch you use for your dog must have a low beam to ensure you do not blind others and yourself too.
Torches can be inconvenient on public roads because street lights and cars can cast shadows on the road making it difficult to see where you are going. When walking your dog on public roads, make sure you make eye contact with the drivers of any passing cars, and you and your dog should wear reflective clothing and accessories like a Ruffwear light so they can see you.
One way to see your dog in the dark is by reflecting light from your phone or tablet. You can use apps with LED's that will turn your phone into a flashlight which you can point at your dog to help you see them better, although it isn't a practical idea, especially when your battery runs out.
A light-up dog collar would probably be a cheaper and more convenient option that will last much longer. However, you can achieve this without choosing cheaper options by simply attaching a Ruffwear light to your existing collars.
When you are walking your dog in the dark, it's crucial that people driving by can see you equally so strangers can see your dog; otherwise, you might have an upset jogger. This is why it's essential to have a dog collar light!
Night lights for dogs are beneficial because the people driving by can see both you and your dog on the street and not hit you or your dog. It also lets others know where you are when walking with your dog in the dark.

The Ruffwear light is a high-performance safety light to help keep dogs visible in low-light conditions or inclement weather. It is durable and waterproof, with an easy-to-use Quick Clip that attaches to Ruffwear apparel, harnesses, collars, and other gear.
The Ruffwear Beacon has a long-lasting light and strong battery, meaning it can be used up to 20 hours and takes 1.5 hours to recharge the battery via a supplied USB cable fully.
Ever since Ruffwear launched its beacon LED dog light, dog owners have wondered if it's safe for dogs to be running around at night with flashing lights on.
The good news is that the Ruffwear Beacon is entirely safe for dogs. However, lights shining in your dog's eyes, like flashing lights or headlights on a car, can be confusing and even temporarily blind your dog.
You may have seen this happen to some dogs before - they stop dead in their tracks when they see the light. Other dogs might panic and run. It may be alarming, but it's not dangerous for your dog. Most dogs will adjust to their surroundings very quickly.
Many LED lights on the market are designed specifically for pets. These lights attach to your pet's collar or harness, creating a brilliant light that makes them visible at night. While you may be hesitant about using these while walking, remember that these types of lights are specifically designed to help other people see your dog, not to allow your dog to see better.
Since the light isn't shining in their eyes, it does not affect their vision. With that said, it's always a good idea to keep your dog's environment clear of any disorienting lights, such as full beam headlights from a car.
The Ruffwear beacon can attach to a Ruffwear harness or a collar, or you can use the little loop on top to attach it to a D ring on any collar or harness. The Beacon is to attach to the webbing material or D ring points.

We all know that dogs love to go in the water. Unfortunately, this often leaves them with smelly and dirty dog collars. Does this sound familiar?
"Does anyone have any tips on how to get that pungent smell out of a dog collar. I bathe my dog regularly but his dog collar has got this awful smell. I've tried vinegar then tried baking soda but to no avail!"
There have been reports of people throwing the dog collars into a dishwasher. It may work but I know some of the stuff our dogs roll around in and I think I would pass on letting any of that go near any kitchen utensils and plates.
A waterproof dog collar will not retain bad smells or start breaking down as easily meaning they can be easily wiped clean and then re-used. Practicality, cleanliness, and hygiene are just a few reasons why waterproof dog collars should be on your list of accessories when shopping for your pooch!
Whether you have a Labrador or a tiny dog, it is hilarious when they bomb into the water but it's not so funny when they come out stinking and decide to shake all over you and have ruined all the nice shiny dog travel accessories you recently decked them out in! Dog accessories are made for adventure like waterproof dog supplies and waterproof dog collars are the perfect solution for this problem.
Waterproof dog collars are the perfect way to ensure that your pup's favourite accessory will remain clean, hygienic and in good condition for longer! It can be wiped down or thrown into a washing machine when it gets dirty.
You don't have to use one but smelly dog collars can be impossible to clean because the smell clings on to all the nooks and crannies. A waterproof dog collar doesn't have this problem because you can wipe them clean with a damp cloth or simply put it through your washing machine!
Here are some more reasons why waterproof dog collars should be an essential part of any dogs wardrobe:
- Waterproof dog collars are practical and hygienic.
- They come in a range of fun, vibrant colours to match any waterproof dog harness or waterproof dog coat!
- Durable BioThane makes them sturdy but comfortable for your pet.
- You can clean the waterproof dog collar without worrying about scrubbing out that dirty smell you hate with a soap and sponge.
Waterproof dog collars are certainly not bad for dogs. Biothane waterproof collars are non toxic which is a good start... This means that they can be used in humid conditions, near water and it won't hold on to bacteria which of course can be bad for dogs if it is near to their eyes, nose or mouth.
Bacteria are naturally present everywhere including waterproof dog collars but when you put them around your pet's head especially in the nose, mouth and eyes, there is a chance that you will be putting bacteria in or near their openings. That can lead to infections which are very dangerous for pets.
Some of the diseases your pet could get when they have bacterial infections include blindness, pneumonia and sepsis (infection spreading through body). Dogs don't need waterproof collars to stay away from such diseases but waterproof collars decrease the risk and chances of it happening.
Some common types of bacteria that can be found on non-waterproof dog collars include:
- Staphylococcus aureus (the most common type) - this is responsible for causing abscesses, boils and other infections in dogs;
- Streptococcus - this is also responsible for causing infections in dogs;
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa (the most common type) - this one causes pneumonia and sepsis.
When you choose waterproof collars, you can be at least a little more assured that your dog can stay healthy without getting infected. Of course, with the best will in the world this is not always feasible but we can only improve their chances with small changes.
There are two great waterproof dog collars. The EzyDog Neo collar (Neoprene) and the BioThane dog collar are both waterproof options.
Neoprene is waterproof and is a great waterproof dog collar. It has rubberized coating on the inside for waterproofing, flexible webbing with steel D-rings to provide strength, and it doesn't absorb water like nylon does (so your pet stays drier in wet conditions). Neoprene, also known as polychloroprene, is used in all kinds of products, from wetsuits to pool toys.
The second style of waterproof dog collar are the BioThane collars. This BioThane material has a similar feel and strength as leather but doesn't absorb water or get damaged when wet. It's also very durable so you won't have to worry about it breaking easily but this depends on the thickness and strength of your dog.
BioThane is waterproof thanks to the manufacturing process. It is made from a high density polyethylene material. It's a polyester webbing coated in PVC/TPU which makes it durable, waterproof and easy to clean. The manufacturing process allows for this bio-based plastic to be extremely tough and durable, whilst also being very lightweight.
These BioThane waterproof dog collars are popular with owners who take their dogs on long hikes or into the water often because they do not have to worry about the collar absorbing any moisture but also love to have something colourful and stylish just to finish off a great all round collar.
You can buy Masbrill Light Up Dog Collars which are supposed to be waterproof. However there have been reported issues with the lights going out and just not working. They have a USB port in them and whenever you have a USB port you have a change of water damage especially when submerged. They would not be high on my recommended list.
For a collar I would choose one dedicated to the job of remaining waterproof and then would choose something like the Ruffwear Beacon light which has been proven time and time again that it can be submerged in water without issue.
Reflective dog collars can be waterproof but this is dependent on whether they have a coating to protect them from water or not. If there isn't, then it will absorb some of the water which may lead to rusting over time
You might be wondering if leather dog collars can get wet or not. The answer is yes, they absolutely can! If your pup loves the water like mine does then you'll need to make sure that their collar isn't made out of this material because it will become damaged once it gets soaked. This means that when they are swimming around in a lake or during a rainstorm their collar will deteriorate over time. Instead of using leather, you should look into getting one that is made out of Neoprene or BioThane which can resist water and won't be affected by it at all!
Ever had a wet and smelly dog collar? The water-resistant material on these collars is designed to keep the collar dry. That's not all, this will also protect your pup from dangerous bacteria that can grow in dampness. There are lots of colours and patterns to choose from so you'll be able to find one that matches their personality or style as well as practicality! You should also think about how long it would take for you to need another new collar because most people with a dog could do with having at least one waterproof collar. BioThane or EzyDog Neoprene would both make great choices if you're looking for durability and function paired together - they won't let anything ruin your amazing, wet dog adventures!
Happy Travfurling
]]>A dog coat with legs can be essential for outdoor-loving dogs, especially those with shorter/thinner coats, as it helps with protection against the wind and rain. If you have a short-haired dog breed, then you have probably been considering this style of dog coat at one point or another.
These dog jackets are made to protect them from the wind, rain and mud while they go out on their daily adventures. A dog jumper could suffice for double-coated dogs, but it will not protect them from dirt across the whole body, and this is where a dog coat like the Rukka excels.
The Rukka dog jacket is a waterproof dog suit with legs that have been specially designed for outdoor-loving dogs who need protection against the elements. It is a complete overall which protects your dog's body, belly and legs. The Rukka dog coat is perfect when you need a waterproof dog coat or if you want to keep your pup shielded from the wind.
Walking outdoors with dogs is great fun and great for our mental health and happiness, and the same goes for dogs. It allows them to explore new areas and sniff around. The change of scenery can be very beneficial for both you as the owner and your dog as it gives you a chance to unwind from everyday life. In addition to this, there are many other benefits, including:
Exercise: Dogs need at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, preferably more if possible. It is excellent to do this after long periods of just sitting down for them and you!
Mental stimulation: Walking outside means that our dogs get to interact with their surroundings. This engages their brain and tires them out. However, many dog owners don't realise that tiring a dog out isn't always via physical stimulation; it is just as important to use mental stimulation.
Most dogs wear dog jackets with legs to provide some defence to the elements, to protect them against environmental allergies, and it can even help to evade ticks from latching on to the fur when walking through long grass.
You can buy them here Rukka Protect with Legs, and you can even dig a little further in the shop to find other dog coats such as our thermal range and very cool, yellow waterproof dog coats.
Some dogs need coats because they are always outdoors, or they have short, thin coats that could do with an extra layer of warmth when it is cold outside. Other dog breeds need a dog coat if you spend lots of time in the mountains with lots of snow and windy conditions.
Short-haired dogs experience cold more than dog breeds with thick double coats. Therefore, dog jackets with legs are essential for dogs who go outdoors. An example of a quality dog jacket brand is the Rukka dog jacket with legs to protect dogs from the wind, rain and mud. In addition, it keeps smaller sized dog breeds warm since their bodies get colder faster than bigger dogs do - so these little guys will appreciate some added insulation from the small dog coats during winter walks! Try the Rukka thermal fleece dog jacket with legs for this extra warmth and protection as it is an excellent, warm, premium dog fleece with legs!
The fabric used on this all-in-one dog jacket is completely waterproof, and it protects the body, belly and legs of your dog. It also keeps dog breeds with shorter/thinner coats extra warm in colder weather conditions.
Many dogs do not require a winter coat because some have a natural double coat and will be perfectly fine without. It could do more harm than good for dogs with double coats, but you can monitor this. Under the right conditions, most dogs will benefit from the extra layer of protection on cooler days, especially short-haired breeds.
The term 'like' is subjective. For example, we could ask if people like wearing raincoats and the answer would be no if they were sitting indoors in them. However, if someone goes out into the wind and rain, they would suddenly love having some protection around them.
The same goes for dogs, but there will always be some that do not enjoy wearing anything, and there are double-coated dogs for which it simply isn't necessary.
The immediate answer that comes to mind is any waterproof dog coats with underbelly protection and legs, but you need to dig a little deeper and understand other features are a must.
Dog jackets keep dogs dry when out walking in wet or muddy areas. Choosing a high-quality dog coat for outdoor activities is crucial since you don't want wind or rain coming through onto your dog!
The Rukka all-in-one dog jacket is made from water repellent GORE WINDSTOPPER fabric which provides excellent protection against wind and rain so that your pup stays nice and dry during their walkies even if there's bad weather outside. You can easily attach this dog outfit using the two front buckles and Velcro closure.
In addition to these features, you also have a range of very cool colours to choose from. These include plum, black and dark agave, but other Rukka coats are available in different colours.
A dog waterproof with legs can be excellent at keeping your dog warm and dry during walks in wet, windy or snowy conditions. The Rukka is made from GORE fabric repels water so that the jacket is 100% waterproof - keeping your pup nice and cosy even when there's terrible weather outside!
This all-in-one coat has a stretch inner lining for maximum comfort while wearing it. This means you won't have to take off this super functional outfit every time you want to go inside after your walkies. In addition to this, the Rukka dog coat features an adjustable under chest strap, two front buckles and Velcro closer at the back of the neck for an excellent fit.
These full-body dog coats can prevent small insect bites on the skin, and they can stop stagnant water from touching the skin, which can cause irritation and even diseases in some cases. These are just a few reasons why they can be suitable for dogs.
Short-haired dogs experience cold more than other types do - even if it's just a few degrees colder than the usual days outside!
The following dog breeds need winter coats:
- small dogs such as Chihuahuas and toy breeds. These dogs have a lower body temperature than larger, outdoor breeds, making them more susceptible to cold weather.
- long-haired dog breeds with short legs like Pomeranians need winter coats because they do not create enough heat for their bodies in colder climates without help from an additional source (i.e., sweaters). They also cannot quickly shake off snow due to their hair length, so keeping warm is necessary!
- Old English Sheepdogs are another breed that needs extra protection during the winter months since this large-sized breed does not generate much warmth on its own either--especially if it's wet or humid outside!
We have a multitude of choices when it comes to dog coats that have legs and harness holes.
This very warm dog coat has a zip enclosure across the back and has a harness access point making this ideal for dogs who need a harness as well as a protective coat. It is a well covered opening which the dog leash and ring can easily connect through.
This dog coat is very suitable for double coated dogs. They may not need the warmth that the thermal dog coat provides but they still need the shell to keep dry and will also still have a portal hole for a harness.
Here are all the different dog coats with and without leg protection for you to explore!
Dog boots, sweaters and raincoats should all be considered and will help keep your pup warm during the winter months.
If you live in an area with constant rainfall, then waterproof outerwear such as Joule's yellow dog raincoats should be worn by pups to prevent their skin from becoming dry or flaky due to exposure to these temperatures.
It is not just short-haired dogs that could do with a dog jacket with legs. There are many other examples where these dog jackets can be life-saving. For example, dogs with the following conditions would benefit from a dog coat with legs:
- Dogs with joint problems.
- Slow-healing wounds, including those caused by diabetes or Cushing's disease.
- Elderly dogs may be suffering from arthritis, hip dysplasia or other conditions where the cold weather would worsen their condition and speed up the process of ageing.
- ill dogs who are more susceptible to hypothermia after surgery/chemotherapy treatment. These pets need to recover as fast as possible; avoid making them feel worse than they already do!
Dogs who love water would need to dry off quickly on a cold day which is possible with a Ruff and Tumble dog towel, but after they dry off, they need to try and remain warm. A dog jacket with legs would help to keep them warm.
Dog jackets with legs (fully body outfits can also protect their fur for a show or event). For example - Grooming dogs that need protection from the cold, wind and water when they are being washed before going into a crate ready for showing!
You should ensure that your dog jacket is warm and waterproof if you take it out in the rain. It should have a detachable hood and adjustable leg-ends for comfort and protection from strong weather elements such as wind or snow. In addition to this, the most popular jackets tend to be waterproof dog coats with a harness hole. These work well with a harness and have a portal hole where you can attach your lead so that if your dog ever needed to be tied up, it would be easy for them to wear.
- A complete dog raincoat has waterproof fabric with taped seams
- underbelly protection
- Adjustable leg ends for leg protection and comfort
- Stretchy fabric and will protect against the elements
- Reflective piping details for safety at night
- Adjustable waist and collar
- A Portal flap so a harness can be worn and attached to easily

- Dirty Water and Mud Can Lead To Skin Diseases: Bacterial infection, Hot Spots (Fungal Infection) and Mange are the main three skin diseases that dogs get from dirty water and mud left on their coats or paws for extended periods of time. They cause your dog a lot of discomfort and can be extremely painful.
- Dirty Water Can Lead To Ear Infections: If you leave dirty water on your dogs ears it will cause an ear infection. This is a common problem in dogs that get left with dirty water or mud caked to their fur around the face, head and necks areas for extended periods of time.
- Dirty Water Can Lead to Eye Infections: If you leave dirty water or mud on your dogs face, eyes and around the eye area it will cause an eye infection. This can lead to loss of vision in some severe cases if left untreated for too long.
These are only three conditions that may develop from dirty water but there are many more. Hiking with dogs can be such a rewarding experience for both you and them especially when the world is such a big place for you both to see.
Travelling with your hiking buddy is so important when the view never ends and you have a lot of ground to cover.
In this article I want to take a look at hiking with dogs, some of the best places to go and what you need for different environments and terrain. Our family has always enjoyed our weekend outdoor hikes in England (UK) ever since we all had dogs.
Hiking here has been my favourite pastime for many years now, not just because it brings me joy but also because hiking in England can be beautiful and challenging for both us and our dogs all in one go. Since Covid-19 we have had to really embrace what is on our door step and it makes you realise just how beautiful it really is.
I live in the South East of England near the coast but also lived in Yorkshire where myself and others have mountains, trails, country parks and rivers which are perfect for hiking with dogs.
The best dogs for going hiking with are obviously active and fit but also not too small or big. You want a hiking dog with a slim build to make the most of hiking in England because you will be going along trails where space can be limited at times.
Hiking dogs should have short hair if the weather is warm and long hair when it gets cold, they should weigh around 30-40lbs which makes them lightweight on your back when hiking with dogs that need hiking accessories such as a hiking backpack designed for dogs.
Remember to keep up their fitness levels by taking them jogging every other day before hiking in England so you're both ready for what comes ahead.
Good hiking dogs have stamina and endurance which means they will stick by your side through thick. A dog can typically walk for up to 3 hours before they need a rest, but hiking is fun so you can't always predict when they'll need their rest!
Of course hiking with dogs would not be complete without mentioning hiking trails in England. There are many across the country that are suitable for hiking so lets explore some of them.
The best places to go hiking with dogs in England are those with natural beauty such as mountains, trails and hiking spots that make you feel closer to nature.
For example, hiking dogs can be taken to the Peak District where they have a huge national park which includes hills and moorlands for hiking dogs of all ages. You may even meet some locals who share your love for hiking with dogs during walks or over a cheeky drink and meal in the local pubs.
The best places to go hiking with dogs in the East of England are the Suffolk Coast and Heaths which have beaches, hiking trails and farming landscapes for a hiking dogs to see.
Norfolk dog walks include hiking trails that are found through the famous Norfolk Broads which hiking dogs tend to love because it can be muddy and wet, but still very beautiful.
Dogs really love the Suffolk Coast and Heaths hiking trails because they can run free and people tend to be more dog friendly. Hiking with dogs in the East of England offers beautiful hiking trails that are good for everyone to enjoy.
The best hiking spots for when you are with your dog are those with interesting features such as Castle Howard's hiking trails where you can explore a stunning manor house, gardens and landscape too.
If hiking is done at Hardwick Hall hiking dogs could get wet so remember your waterproofs or a hiking Ancol dog coat. The Derwent Gardens are also worth hiking around if you have time before getting back to your car. These are all amazing places where you can hike with dogs in the north east of England.
The best dog friendly cafes in the north east are those with a nice outdoor area where hiking dogs can stretch their legs and have a drink with you.
Our favourite cafes include:

Now we know the best hiking dogs, locations and cafes for a swift drink and bite to eat lets take a look at what dog hiking accessories will help you on your adventures.
As you know hiking with dogs comes with several things you need to consider such as what dog backpack do I need? How will I hydrate my pooch? Is my dog going to struggle in the sun, wind or rain? Will they be car sick from our journey and do I need car safety accessories to ensure I am not breaking the law if they roam free.
It doesn't matter what hiking pack you have as long as it is big enough for your dog to fit in, but be sure to put them in a harness or vest so they don't slip out.
A K9 sport sack can offer many varieties from the K9 sport sack trainer through to a K9 sport sack Rover 2 for the ultimate trekker. K9 Dog Carriers can be found here.
You may need a hiking tag on their collar with details if they wander off so consider purchasing a dog ID tag. They start from just £7.99 and are a cheap price to pay for your dog being returned to you.
A collapsible dog bowl is good to carry and can be filled up anywhere and then collapsed and stored away when not needed.
There's no need for flat bowls that take up too much room, we want hiking gear that is compact and does the job! And who wants metal bowls jingling around whilst walking? Bad news of course because hiking with dogs requires you to keep it light and quiet.
A hiking dog water bottle is ideal for hiking with dogs so you can carry your own hydration pack rather than stopping for drinks along the way. Fill up before you start hiking and then go forth. You can fill them at any stream or lake which makes it easy, just remember to boil the water if there's no path of civilization nearby.
When hiking in extreme heat, wind or rain it is important to keep an eye on your dog as they may become distressed, dehydrated or worse. You need hiking accessories that are sturdy but lightweight such as an Ancol or Rukka dog coat. These are also great when it rains unexpectedly because otherwise what will you both do when you're out hiking?
Have you heard the secret? Mushers secret? Mushers secret paw wax is the best hiking accessory for your dog's paws. It offers paw protection from extreme temperatures, ice and heat.
Keep a jar in your hiking bag and make sure to treat their paws after hiking! Musher's secret paw wax forms a breathable barrier that creates a tough, invisible shield between your dog's paws and the ground. It works instantly to protect against salt, chemicals, ice build up and warm pavements.
here are some of the most common questions we receive in our online chat and when out adventuring with our dogs and chatting with others.
A few hours for hiking is ample for dogs. I have seen very old dogs hiking all day along with their human companions. A dogs limbs will begin to get sore after walking for several miles, but the dog's pain threshold is significantly higher than humans. Most dogs will stop when they are tired and need a good rest after a good stretch of walking.
Warning: You should always be careful with younger dogs and dogs with smaller limbs. Dogs need to build up to long distances and can have injuries just like us so don't risk causing an injury and take your time with them.
TA dog backpack can be big enough to carry a large dog for those who are strong enough to lift it. The K9 sport sack Rover 2 will be as big as you will ever need.
I wouldn't recommend hiking with a puppy for an extended period of time, especially if it is its first hike. Though they do great on shorter hikes I would limit it to one or two hours maximum. A K9 sport sack could come in useful for carrying your puppy back and don't forget to add in a K9 booster block for the bottom of the bag just in case they are too small!
It is safe to hike with your dog if you have everything you need. As I said before make sure you have water for yourself and your dog, a windproof lighter in case of fire, a cell phone in cases of emergency, spare leash or lead if needed, poop bags to pick up after your dog and the biggest thing is to be prepared to carry it (including your dog) all back home over short distances if necessary.
Not only hiking with dogs is great for your mental health offering you time to get out into nature but it will keep you fit hiking trails around town. Just remember to hydrate before hiking with dogs and after hiking too! Whether hiking in London or out in the middle of nowhere, there are plenty of hiking accessories that can help make your adventure one for the books. You don't want to miss an amazing hiking trail because you forgot some hiking products - trust me I've been there! But now with Travfurler we can help you find these hiking products and more so sign up today and take advantage of 5% off on some premium doggy goodies.

Whether dog owners want to keep their dog warm or protect them from the rain, it can be hard finding a dog coat that will allow your dog to wear both a coat and harness at once.
With so many different dog coats and harnesses on the market today, we're here to help you find out if a dog can wear a harness and a coat together and then help you find one that suits your needs and your pup's personality!
So long as they harness D-ring and coat hole line up, a dog can wear both. However, if the dog coat's harness hole is not in the right place it may be difficult to get your dog into their harness and/or you might have trouble getting them out of a harness with a poorly placed ring to leash/hole mismatch.
Despite the fur, some dogs feel cold in the winter. A coat can help keep your dog comfortable while walking in cold weather, but there are some things to consider when you're choosing a coat for your pet.
Dogs with short fur should wear coats outside during extreme temperatures or other harsh conditions such as heavy rain, ice and snow.
A good fit is very important not just for the harness they may wear with it but also so that your dog can't back out of it or get their legs stuck in the coat. A harness is now a popular choice because it distributes the pressure of a leash across their chest instead of just around their neck. This is why many people now need dog coats to work alongside a dog harness.
Choosing the right dog coat really depends on both yours and your dogs weather requirements. If you dog is only going to be outside for short periods of time, then a simple dog coat should do. However if your dog will be outside in the cold and wet for long periods of time then an insulated dog jacket or outer shell with fleece lining would work best.
We would choose the classic Yellow dog raincoat and that could be a Joules, Rukka or Trespaws Seadog. Yellow dog raincoats are great as they compliment many dog's coats and they are hard to miss when trying to find your dog. The yellow raincoat is perfect for dog shows, outdoor dog walks or dog park trips especially when roaming through London on a wet day!
Trespaws Seadog Yellow Dog Coat
A countryside walking essential, try the Trespaws Waxed Cotton Dog Coat. It's a diamond quilted jacket which is water resistant, fleece lined and adjustable. The outer cotton fabric has been treated with wax to create a water resistant barrier to keep your dog protected from the rain. Whilst the inside of the quilted jacket has been lined with a thermal fleece to help keep your adventure buddy warm
The best dog coat to keep dogs warm will be the ones with a thermal fleece lining. . We would recommend a dog coat with a thermal lining such as the Trespaws Artemis Waxed Cotton Dog Coat. It is super warm and the outer cotton fabric has been treated with wax to create a water resistant barrier to keep your dog protected protected from the elements whilst adventuring or going on walks in bad weather.
But what if you need one that is fleece linked for warmth and it needs to be fully waterproof with a harness hole? See below.
We have you covered with the Rukka Waterproof Dog Fleece which has a harness hole, has a fleece lining to keep your dog warm & is excellent at withstanding cold, wet weather.
Two in one dog coats such as the Danish Design Dog coat with harness hole have a removable polar fleece liner which is attached by Velcro meaning it is easy and reattach.
You can quickly change the dog coat which really helps with sudden weather changes throughout the day. We have all been there when one minute it is a slight shower and the next the sun is high, and the weather is hot for the rest of the afternoon. This Danish Design dog coat will ensure you are prepared for all conditions.
The ultimate waterproof dog coat for severe weather has to be the Rukka Protect Overall Dog Raincoat with Legs. Its main focus is to cover all of the body from the rain and wind however there is no fleece lining so we would pair it with a jumper underneath. Jumper on the first layer, then your harness and then your full body Rukka waterproof.
Alternatively, some people are fine with the legs not being covered and would prefer the same but with an inner fleece in which case choose the Rukka Stormy.
So, can your dog wear a coat and harness together, the answer is yes! The key to making sure this works out well for your furry friends is to make sure that the hole in the coat lines up with where on their harness you attach their leash. Choosing the right coat is where it all begins. This way, when they pull against it while walking around outside, there won't be any tension pulling on them from behind which could cause discomfort. Have fun dressing up your pup for the winter and keep us posted as to how things go!

The Ruffwear Webmaster Harness is a revolutionary new dog harness that has been designed to offer the ultimate in comfort for your dog.
The webmaster harness can be used as an everyday walking harness, or it can also be used as a training tool to help teach your pup how to walk properly.
There are many features that make this product stand out from other dog harnesses on the market today! Let's take a look at some of them below...
The Ruffwear Webmaster has a foam-padded construction is used to reduce the chance of chafing and discomfort. It also allows for more webbing to be placed on high-contact areas like around your dog's elbows, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit.
The foam padding is located on the dog harness chest and back. The webmaster's construction also allows for ventilation in high-activity areas to avoid overheating or discomfort when used during walks, hikes, or runs outside.
The Ruffwear Webmaster is a perfect fit for dogs that like to hike, walk long distances on trails, run or jog with their owner.
The Ruffwear Webmaster anatomical design means it will perfectly fit your dog's body. The webmaster is designed to sit just behind the shoulder blades of dogs, allowing for excellent comfort and range of motion while walking or running.
When choosing a harness, make sure it fits in line with your dog's spine; this ensures that when pressure is applied to the leash (or handle) it does not cause any damage. A well fitted harness is key and this is why you should not opt for cheaper alternatives.
It is just like when we choose good shoes or trainers, we know the impact it can have for example wearing a pair of trainers instead of well fitted hiking boots for long hikes.
There is a padded handle on the Webmaster dog harness that is perfect for when your dog gets tired or you need to help them up steep slopes. The handle can also be used as a grip point if needed, especially with larger dogs who are very strong and may pull on the leash.
By restraining your dog via the webmaster harness it gives you greater control over them during walks or hikes so that they do not drag you up or down a mountain!
The Ruffwear Webmaster has five points of adjustment for a secure fit. This is really important if you are planning to use the webmaster harness for your dog during long walks or hikes where they will experience any discomfort due to poor fitting of their webbing harness,
Remember: every dog walk should be fun and free from pain! Make sure that when choosing the webmaster size you choose carefully. Take your time with measurements and know we are on hand to help through live chat or email us at info@travfurler.com.
There are two leash attachment points on the webmaster harness. The first is a sturdy, low-profile aluminium V-ring on the webbing between your dog's shoulders and the second is a reinforced webbing loop at the centre of their chest for added control while walking or hiking with your dog.
The aluminium V-ring on the webmaster is for your dog's collar attachment. This gives you added control over them when on walks or hikes and allows you to steer them in a certain direction by guiding their head with the leash attached here.
A good example of this would be if your dog was about to run into traffic, or they are running towards an unfriendly dog or other animal when out on a hike.
A reinforced webbing loop is located at the webmaster's chest, this offers an additional control point for when you need to keep your dog close by or if they are pulling on their leash.
Having a customisable fit ensures the harness is tailored to your dog's size. This webmaster harness also has two points of webbing buckles around the belly and under-chest which allow you to adjust tightness, ensuring that custom fit for your dog.
The Webmaster has a padded chest and belly panel to ensure comfort and security for your dog when they are on a walk or hike. This webmaster harness is ideal to use with large dogs such as German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers and Golden retrievers who need that extra room when walking or running into the next pet adventure.
Foam padded straps mean that the webmaster is comfortable and kind on your dog's skin, this prevents any irritation or hair loss. If a harness is thin enough to rub, then it can cut. If it cuts, it can become infected and if it becomes infected we know what the vet bill could suddenly add up to.
this webmaster harness offers all of these features to ensure that you have a happy experience while out hiking or walking with your dog. This Ruffwear Harness will keep them safe, secure and allow for free movement when in use
A reflective trim on the webmaster harness means that it is easy to see your dog when they are out walking or hiking in dark conditions. This webmaster harness also has a built-in LED light loop for added visibility and safety while you're exploring the great outdoors with your dog.
The light loop for a Ruffwear beacon is a great addition for night time/dark conditions. The webmaster harness has this light loop that you can attach your beacon to if needed during walks and hikes at night time, Remember: visibility is key!
The Webmaster has secure fasteners to ensure that your dog's webbing harness is secure and sturdy, this prevents any discomfort to them when out walking or hiking.
In conclusion, the Ruffwear Webmaster harness is a great choice for anyone with an active dog. It’s durable and safe, easy to put on and take off, comfortable for your pup - the list goes on!

]]>Bonfire night and fireworks season is here, and it's time to celebrate (or panic) with some pyrotechnics (as pet lovers and owners I think we will pass).
However, if you have a pet at home who doesn't like loud noises, this might be an anxious time for them. The RSPCA recommends that you provide your pets with a safe haven where they can go to get away from any fireworks displays.
This could include giving them extra attention before the fireworks start, making sure their crate or bedding is nearby so they don't feel alone once the noise begins, and leaving on calming music or playing white noise in another room during firework shows.
Dogs don't like loud noises such as fireworks because they can make them feel very threatened. To help dogs get through fireworks, you should give your pet a safe haven where it is comfortable and away from any loud noises.
Don't forget that too much exposure to loud sounds like these can damage dogs' hearing! While dogs may seem okay immediately after such an event has ended, within 24 hours symptoms such as pain and increased anxiety might start showing - don't let this happen! If you think your dog's hearing is damaged you should get them checked out by a veterinarian.
A dogs hearing is far more sensitive than ours for example dogs can hear a sound as quiet as the rustle of leaves from 100 feet away, compared to our own sensitive range which is only about 20 feet.
Remember that loud noises such as fireworks aren't just bad for dogs but other pets too including cats and birds who unfortunately do not have someone to protect them like our pets do. Ensure all your pets are safe from harm this year with natural remedies or alternatives! With some thoughtfulness most issues can be avoided with dogs around loud noises like fireworks.
Making a comfortable den is something you can do for dogs and cats. For dogs you could provide a crate or bedding that is nearby to where they will be during fireworks and for cats, make sure there are plenty of places they can go to hide away from any fireworks. You will be surprised the places they can end up hanging from if you don't!
You should try and ensure your dog has most of their exercise in the day time and give them plenty of attention and exhausting playtime. This will help tire dogs out enough so they are more relaxed at night and they'll hopefully sleep through the fireworks.
One tried and tested method for keeping dogs calm during fireworks so long as they are safe and indoors is natural pet calming remedies. For dogs who are particularly anxious, there's even a dog calming collar available which emits vapours that dogs find very relaxing.
You should also make sure your pet has their ID tags on in case they escape while you're distracted by the sounds of fireworks so police can return them to you if necessary! If you are very worried then a Pet GPS tracker could also prove beneficial. Another good idea is to leave dogs at home during firework times and have someone (if not you) stay with them. Dogs often respond better when they have less exposure to stressful events like these!
White noise played in other rooms works well as another alternative if dogs aren't comfortable with crates or beds - the constant sound might help them
An alternative solution which works very well is Pet Remedy which is a natural pet calming solution that uses a blend of smells dogs find relaxing. Having a safe haven available, leaving dogs at home during firework times and using natural calming remedies are fantastic ways to help dogs enjoy fireworks season safely!
The following ingredients are in Pet Remedy 's natural calming blend:
- Valerian
- Lavender Oil
- Chamomile
Valerian is a calming herb for dogs which is used in Pet Remedy's natural formula to combat anxiety.
Lavender has a soothing effect on dogs and Chamomile helps them feel relaxed.
Chamomile is a natural ingredient dogs enjoy and it is a great alternative to chemical-based calming products. This combination of natural ingredients make the blend perfect for dogs who are anxious about loud noises like fireworks.
If you've got dogs around during fireworks, consider using the above tips as well as Pet Remedy's natural pet calming formula to help them stay calm! For more advice on keeping your dogs calm this firework season give this a try and let us know how you get on: Pet Remedy Natural Calming Solutions.

]]>If you are like me, your dog's poop is the bane of your dog owning existence. It takes up time and money, but Fetch it has made my life so much easier.
Fetch It offers eco-friendly dog poop bags that can be composted or recycled. If you want to learn more about Fetch It Dog Poop Bags then continue reading this blog post!
The problem with normal dog waste bags is that they are not eco-friendly. Fetch It bags are compostable or recyclable, which makes them the perfect choice for dog owners who want to make a difference in their local community!
Another problem is that some dog poop bags don’t have tie handles and instead offer twist ties. Horrible, just horrible. Fetch it has found a way around this by having their poop bags made with long handles and if you have ever had short handle ties, twist ties or no handles then you will know what a pain this can be (your hands get too close for comfort).
If you’re looking for ways to make your life easier and more environmentally friendly, Fetch it is a great solution! Fetch It offers eco-friendly dog products and the Compostable Fetch It Poop Bags With Tie Handles is a winner for us hence why we use them and have never looked back.
Fetch it dog poop bags are the best on the market. They offer a variety of sizes and styles to accommodate all dogs' needs. The Fetch It Eco-Friendly Dog Poop Bags come in a box of 120.
If your dog is pooing far too often and you use these up quickly then it might be worthwhile taking a look at their diet to ensure it is full of nutrients which are absorbed rather than regularly excreted.
The Fetch it packaging is biodegradable, making disposal much easier. As mentioned, the Fetch it Dog Poop Bags are easy to tie up and use. No fussing with flimsy or crinkly poop bags that you have to tear open which always end up ripping and spilling everywhere (this only happened once ok...).
Fetch it dog poop bags are strong, sturdy and easy to open with one hand which everyone knows is the true ultimate test with dog poop bags!
Biodegradable and compostable are often used interchangeably but they are NOT the same thing. Fetch it dog poop bags are 100% compostable which means they will fully break-down in the right conditions.
Biodegradable is a term that can apply to anything, whether it be other dog poop bags or a plastic fork. Biodegradable means that something will break-down over time and is not necessarily environmentally friendly as that could be years, whereas Fetch It dog poop bags are 100% compostable which means they can be disposed of in the green bin at home.
Biodegradable products will eventually disintegrate over time, usually over hundreds of years, into smaller pieces but these can be still be harmful to organisms.
These smaller pieces of plastic fragments are known today as micro-plastics. Compostable bags on the other hand decompose into non-toxic organic matter which can be broken down to form a nutrient rich soil or "compost".
Fetch it is not just about offering a different poop bag for at home. They are offering a practical dog poop bag you can use when you go on hikes or walks by the river and countryside where it is not always possible to find a bin.
Fetch It Dog Poop Bags are the best on the market!
These Fetch it large eco friendly poo bags have tie handles for strength. Fun fact: these are the only compostable poo bags on a roll with tie handles!
Why Choose Fetch It Poop Bags for Adventure?
The 100% fetch it poop bags aren't harmful to the environment and make up one part of the range of FETCH·IT compostable pet products.
Unlike standard poo bags that take decades to degrade, these have been tested to degrade into natural plant products within a matter of weeks and are certified for home composting. So not only by using these Fetch It poop bags will you be reducing waste, you'll be helping ocean and marine life that is impacted by plastic waste.
The Fetch It Poop bags are extremely strong, in fact the strongest on the market, so you don't need to worry about bursts or leaks whilst on the move. Simply scoop, compost and become a super pooper scooper! Fetch It Eco-friendly Fetch it bags are not only extremely strong but they contain no added plastic or chlorine, making them suitable for vegans.
Made from corn starch , Fetch It dog waste bags can be placed directly into a home compost system and will break down within weeks!
Fetch it is not only eco-friendly but highly durable. They have found the perfect balance between being strong enough to handle any size of poo, but still lightweight and comfortable for dog walking. They have long handles and overall they offer everything you need to be an environmentally conscious dog walker!

Pets, dog seat belts, cars, travel, safety. Strap in ready for a safe walk through of the do's and don'ts of dogs and car seat belts.
Starting with some stats:
Every year, thousands of auto accidents are caused by loose pets in a vehicle.
An unrestrained 10-pound dog in a 50 mph car crash exerts 500 pounds of force. That is half a French bulldog in size exerting the force of two heavy fully grown men.
Travelling typically requires a form of transport and with over 33 million cars on the road in the UK alone, driving is currently one of the most popular methods of transport to use. Times have changed and many people opt to have their dog in the car with them but where do they go? Front, back, boot, on the roof and on top of this, should dogs wear seat belts?
A dog seat belt should be used to ensure you adhere to Rule 57 of the Highway Code "animals should be suitably restrained". No dog seat belt means the driver risks breaking the law and both dog and driver could be severely injured.
A seat belt is a vehicle safety device used to secure a person against harmful, sudden movement during a collision or sudden stop.
A dog seat belt can come in several forms and be attached in different ways. it is fundamentally the same restraint which will hold your dog in place during any impact or collision with another vehicle or object.
Dogs should absolutely wear a dog seat belt. Why?
Financial Penalty
Thousands of drivers could be breaking the law and if you do not restrain your pets you could be joining them and may receive an on-the-spot penalty fine.
Serious Injury to your Dog
If they are not restrained in the back with a seat belt and you just have them in the front seat belt or not, they will face the risk of being crushed by your air bag if it is not disabled. This very easily could kill or at the least severely injure your dog.
Dangerous Projectile
The dangers of a loose dog in the backseat during a collision can include them becoming a dangerous projectile no matter what size they are. This could severely injure you and them or worse.
Panic and Driver Distraction
Any sudden jerks, breaking or acceleration could cause a dog to panic in a vehicle. If the dog distracts the driver this could cause a car accident and on top of the injuries this isn't going to look too good to your insurance company during the investigation.
Attempting an Escape on a Busy Road
it happens more often than you may think. Dog is not restrained, owner opens the door to welcome them out and your dog pounces out of the car into an oncoming car.
The EzyDog seat belt restraint attaches to the seatbelt in your car and is designed to keep your dog secure whilst travelling in a vehicle. Simply slide your car seat belt through the restraint and then clip the restraint to the D-ring on your dog's harness.
The restraint is able to move along the seat belt slightly, thus ensuring your dog can sit or lie down comfortably and prevents them from climbing over passengers.

Simple to use; just click the seat belt for dogs in place, attach to your adventure dog and go! The click dog seat belt is designed to be simple, safe and convenient for keeping your dog under control whilst on the move.
The dog seat belt can be adjusted in length therefore allowing you to choose how much freedom your dog has to move around during transit as well as being suitable for different breeds and sizes of dogs.
There is a heavy duty snap hook to handle weight from large dogs as well as strong seat belt webbing materials for safety and a universal belt clip that clicks into most modern car seatbelt sockets.
The EzyDog Car Harness has been carefully designed to mould to the shape of a dog's chest and distribute the load evenly across their body. Combined with other durable safety features it makes for a great in car and walking dog harness. Use this in conjunction with the EzyDog seat belt restraint.
By using this Sharples car safety belt for dogs, you can ensure that your pet is optimally secured when travelling in a vehicle in case of sudden braking, swerving or collision.
It further helps to improve safety by keeping pets secured in place, allowing for limited freedom of movement around the vehicle, causing fewer distractions to the driver. A must have for those who travel with pets in their vehicle.
The Paws on Tour Isofix Seatbelt simply attaches to your dog's harness and plugs straight into your car's Isofix anchor point, simply click and clip.
This keeps your dog safe and secure in the back seat of your car, whilst still allowing room for other passengers in the back to use the standard seat belt clips.
There is enough length on the adjustable dog seatbelt to allow a little room for your dog to stretch out and relax on the seat or sit out and watch the open road!
The Ezy Dog Drive Harness is a dog safety harness that will secure your pet whilst in transit.
The Drive Car Harness has been designed to safely secure your dog whilst travelling in a vehicle and ensures you comply with rule 57 of the UK highway code.
The safest seat belt is one your dog will be happy with and sit or lay comfortably in. Even though seat belts can protect us and dogs they are never guaranteed to save our lives however they will certainly increase the chances of survival.
Finding a dog seat belt which is secure, easy to fit and keeps your dog comfortable will be the best dog seat belt. This will ensure you continue to use it consistently. If you don't, you know the one time you skip it could be the one time an accident occurs. So choose the one that is practical and convenient for everyday use.
The best dog seat belt is the EzyDog seat belt restraint used with EzyDog crash tested harness.
Absolutely not, but a specially designed car harness with dog seat belt will provide a solid all round restraint if ever an accident does occur.
The safest way for a dog to travel in the car is in a fixed aluminium transport box which can be fitted in the boot of the car or the alternative is to have them well restrained in the back of the car using a harness and seat belt restraint together. The worst idea is placing them in the front of the car especially if they are unrestrained.
They should sit in the boot or rear seats but ideally not in the front and they should always be restrained.
To conclude, dogs should wear a seat belt in the car to keep themselves and you protected. A seat belt restraint will prevent them from distracting the driver and from being flung across the car in an accident.
Happy Travfurling!

The EzyDog Road Runner was made to enable you and your dog to run together! It's a great outdoor dog accessory which will enable you to burn off some calories with your dog! The EzyDog road runner lead is the best lead for running, power walking, strolling and many other things said many reviews all over the internet and I agree! Here's why.
The EzyDog Road Runner is the best lead for running because it enables you to go completely hands-free outdoors with a trusted brand, product and technology. It uses soft webbing and Neoprene for comfort, adjustable clips to attach around your waist and reflective materials for night-time adventure.
I don't need to preach about why dog walks are great as we have heard it many times before. Great for us, great for them, great for our health, great for their health. The outdoors is just great.
Some days we need to leave the house and walk, travel, and get away from it all but sometimes we don't. We might need to multi-task, use our phone, have our hands free, do business on the go or simply use our hands to swing back and forth to help us run faster and burn more calories whilst taking our fur ball alongside us. You can see where I am going with this, right?
Lets discuss what features make the EzyDog road runner the best running lead.
To be completely hands free you need to remove them out of the equation and to do this the EzyDog running belt can be wrapped around your waist meaning you can still dabble on your Blackberry (is that still a thing) whilst you walk (cough: run). There is a loop near the clip where you can just slacken some of the leash through to increase the size of the waist band, the more you increase it the shorter the leash will become but there is plenty of length to avoid this becoming a problem.
Many potential buyers of the lead think that this will only work around the waist. That's not the case when it comes to the best lead for running. The part you see wrapped around the waist is simply fed back through the loop and it acts just as a normal handle on a typical dog leash.
When it comes to choosing the best lead for running then the length becomes an important component. The EzyDog running leash extends to 1.8 meters which creates a comfortable yet safe distance when you are walking or running. The last thing you or your dog needs is to be bumping into each other as you run.
EzyDog are based in Idaho, surrounded by three major mountain ranges along the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. We carefully check all products we supply not just for safety and quality but we look for the premium products that will actually work and last in the real world and EzyDog has always been high on our list.
They have always primarily focussed on active dog gear. As we at Travfurler focus on outdoor adventure and travel the two brands go hand in hand. They are renowned for producing highly functional pet outdoor gear which has amazing comfort, control and safety related to dogs that like to pull.
The quality and confidence we have in the EzyDog range spills over into the EzyDog running belt and from our tests we know you will very satisfied when purchasing one.
The inbuilt technology creates a functional shock absorber EzyDog running leash which is great at reducing the pulling and jolting affects often endured with an enthusiastic dog. The EzyDog road runner excels at reducing the pulling strains whilst hands free and was built with your comfort in mind. This stretchy dog running lead has a shock absorbing component which is the key to a relaxing walk or exhilarating run for both you and your dog.
With reflective materials and a traffic handle for quickly restraining your dog it couldn't be much safer. Safety really comes down to the owner being alert, aware and careful but the EzyDog running belt will certainly be a great aid to your awareness. The grab handle otherwise known as a 'traffic control' restraint is a very popular feature found near the collar or harness attachment. When approaching roads when out running, you will find it is very handy to quickly take control of your dog.

Time is not infinite, and we must make the best use of what time we have with our pets.
Pets have a shorter amount of time on this planet than us. Quality and time out for both you and your pets is healthy and creates happiness. The outdoors with our pets, fresh air, walking and just looking at nature can lower our blood pressure and reduce stress and most of us need a dose of this.
Time is limited. We often want to fill our time, but we should be thinking about making quality moments out of our time rather than thinking about just filling it. Our lifespan is incredibly short, and our pet’s lifespan is unfortunately far shorter. Did you know on average (assuming you may live until you are 80), you only have about 4,000 weeks to live?
What did you do last week? What are you going to do this week?
We never have enough time; we are always too busy, and we fill our time with tasks. We make sure we are not wasting time by filling it with tick lists. The faster we can complete them the faster we can re-load that list and repeat.
But why? What are we chasing that is so important? The top of the career ladder? The clean house? The most money in the bank? A quick walk to the shop with our pets at the end of the day?
Are we then going to sail off into the sunset with our pets feeling complete? Probably not as you will most certainly outlive them and once your life tick list is complete, they most certainly won’t be there anymore.
On a more positive note, If we ignore ‘Adwaita the Tortoise’ then according to the Guinness World Records, it was an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey who lived until the ripe old age of 29 years and 5 months (1910 to 1939).
Even Bluey was just 29 years young. The average dog age is 10 – 13 years old and the average cat age is 2 – 16 years old. Every moment with pets and family counts. Make it count.
In a world where pandemics are hitting the news, war can happen on the toss of a coin, illness can creep out of the blue, family can be gone on a whim, I think it is important we take time out. Mental health issues and anxiety are through the roof for many.
We are learning more and more the impact of ‘always being switched on’ is hurting us more than ever.
I know you probably have lots of work to do and you didn’t clean the kitchen and you are supposed to go to the gym, but it won’t change. You will always need to do all these things.
The great thing about having a pet is that they will always be glad to have your time and your attention for no other reason but to show you love and of course to feed them treats. They are the perfect reason for you to take time out.
Spending some quality time with them, nature and loved ones is for most people the reason we are all trying to get chores and tick lists done. You don’t need to get them all done to do that, you just need to put down whatever you are holding or doing right now and go have some ‘you time’, some quality time, some down time and pat yourself and your pets on the back for everything you have done up to now.
Travfurler was started from my love for travel and my partners love for all animals. Together we both began to love travel, all animals, travelling together and then travelling as family unit including all pets!
As a business we need to sell pet products to you guys for travelling with pets. We need profit, we need to be able to put food on the table (for our pets of course), do a career we both love and slowly expand our business.
Travfurler is not just about selling you the next K9 backpack or EzyDog Lifejacket. It is a lifestyle.
The reality is we just want to travel with our pets, see the world through their eyes, be digital nomads and take them with us everywhere. We want to enable the older man to sit with his dog whilst they paddle in a stream safely. We want to help people such as a recent customer ‘a book author’. She walks with her family through the woods on a weekend and needed to carry her dog when their little, tired legs are worn out (Twitter - @IsabelAshdown). We want a family to be able to lay a blanket down on an evening meal out so their dog can join them and be snug by a pub roaring fire and not just stay at home. We want the stress for you to be gone when your pets get in the back of the car for a long road-trip without pet hair and slobber covering the back of the car afterwards. We want your travels to be stress free and calm with natural products that help anxious dogs and cats.
Most importantly, we want you to spend quality time with your pets and family outdoors.
When we see reviews that show we have achieved even a fraction of this it doesn’t just make me happy, it makes me happy to see my fiancé happy and to know that the business is not just giving to us but is giving that extra bit of help to you. Especially when you decide to take some time out and explore the world together with your pets.
We make infinitely ambitious plans and yet we tend to find barely any time to execute them. There tends to be very little life left at the end just when we are ready to execute all our grand plans. We know it’s hard, we often find ourselves too busy like you, but we must all accept that we cannot just make time at some point. Sometimes things just must be missed and not ticked off the list just so we can have that down time to relax, sit on the grass somewhere and play ball with our pets during a sunset.
Pick up the lead, pack a bag, head outside and take a deep breath ready to walk, run, swim, climb, explore, roll, and embrace the world with your family unit including your pets. Time is short so make it amazing and if we can help you along the way which in turn helps us, even if it is just from you reading our blogs or writing a review then that really does make us happy!
Wherever you go, go with your pet.
Embrace your companion, no matter the adventure.
]]>For many of us our pets are more than just animals, they are a part of the family and deserve to be treated as such. The joy we receive from these family members is unmatched and because of this we want our beloved pets around all the time. We want to bring them to work (which I sometimes do), on long walks to the park and throughout the city, and of course we want our pets with us when we travel. Not only does this make trips more enjoyable and at times less lonely, but it also shows our pets how much we love and appreciate their calming company.
We all know how fun bringing our pets along can be, but we also know how challenging it can be. Thankfully the world of pet products is continuously improving and evolving. I've outlined my top 3 picks of must have travel pet items to ensure everyone in the family has a great trip.
K9 Backpack
These backpacks will ensure you can take your dogs on trips in new cities and on long hikes in the countryside. The backpacks are super convenient for several forms of travel. The sturdy carriers can be used for taking pets onto a train, plane, or ferry with minimal effort, and they are also wonderful for older dogs that would like a nice walk down to the local park. This is truly a must have!
Portable Water Bottle/Bowl Combo
On any hot day, long walk, hike, or day out on the water you'll be happy to have your very own water source for your furry friend. Some of these bottles even come with built in filters, so you don't have to serve your pet any questionable fountain or hotel water. If you wouldn't drink it why would your pet want to? These bottles are convenient, easy to carry, and simple to wash. Fill them up before you leave home, throw them into a pocket on your pet carrier, and you're out the door.
Pet Car Seat Cover
This one is my absolute favourite! Every pet owner, that also owns a car, understands the frustrating task of removing pet hair from your backseat after a road trip. I clearly remember spending 2 hours with a vacuum on the street in front of my home attempting to release the dog hairs from the seat fibres of my car. Despite my best efforts I was still finding the thick white hairs for weeks to come. Stumbling upon one of these seat covers will be the best purchase I ever made. Most are machine washable and extremely easy to install in your back seat. Life changing product!
With the supplies listed above you will be prepared to tackle any day, weekend, or extended trip with your favourite companions. Enjoy your quality time and exploring, just don't forget the treats and poo bags!
