Dog walking in Wales

For this week's blog we've enlisted the help of our Ambassador, Reggie to take us on a journey to his favourite walkies spot in North Wales - The Clwydian Range and share his tips for making it the perfect adventure dog day out!



Situated in North East Wales, The Clwydian Range is a series of hills that runs from Llandegla to Prestatyn which has been classed as an area of outstanding beauty since 1985. Reggie is lucky enough to be within a 1 hour 15 minute drive from his hometown in Liverpool, to the walk and can even see the stunning landscape in the distance from his bedroom window.



The majority of the walk can be done off-leash, however note there are a few occasional sheep so best to keep an eye out if you have an excitable walking buddy. With breathtaking views, even a walk in the rain at Clwydian never dissapoints. Reggie's favourite time to go is in the winter when it's snowing or early morning to catch the sunrise. 



Every visit to the Clwydian Range is different as there are so many trails to follow, the most popular being the "Offas dyke path". Although there are some easy paths, Reggie and his human Suzanne, prefer the more challenging and can easily spent a whole day exploring the hills. 



The summits of the hills have views from all angles from North Wales to Snowdonia, The Peak District, Liverpool and the Cheshire Plain. The route up to Moel Famau is the most popular walk with it's distinctive jubilee tower on the top, but there are other peaks to clime across the range such as Moel Arthur, Moel Gyw and Moel Fenlli.

The carpark charge is £2 for the day and there are toilets available at the bottome carpark of Moel Famau. 
Nearby there is also Loggers Heads Country Park which has paths walking next to the river in the forest. Here you'll also find a dog friendly cafe and ice-cream parlour, which sells doggy ice-cream and has dog bowls with water available. Outside of this there's also a few local pubs a short drive away so you can get some tasty pub grub after a long walk. Suzanne and Reggie recommend "We three loggerheads".
